Our cases doesnt last forever Thomas, when we use it as we do (Racing). I have seen what can happen in one season on my own NOS type 4 case(71x105 - 250 hk) Case is at BAS for align bore at the moment. And you have what, two years runs on yours? It looks like the bearing has been loose and travelled back and fourth inside the case under abusing. Another thing, everything can allways look fine inside an engine when you take it apart (sometimes not), but when you start to measure things up, things are not allways within spec. Have you checked your cylinders for roundness? Seat surface for the valves? On picture number 1 it looks like the intake valve has suffered some "back fire" wich indicates there might be a leak, unless you ran to tight valve adjustment Just some positive input from here Jakob.

On picture 6 it looks like the case surface has shuffled , notice what looks like burrs near the oil return groove for the seal. I have never seen that before, anyone else ? Mike McCarthy

Yeah, I do think that the case through bolts could use a little more torque too.

I am asking because I do not know, does anyone shuffle pin all six through bolt holes on type4's and would this help on these cases ? I ask because on my CB aluminum case ( 6 shuffle pins) the bearings and case have looked like brand new on inspection. Mike McCarthy

I would not recommend 6 shuffle pins. center is enough . But i would always messure after line boring . Udo

I am trying to understand what caused the damage to the case so I am going to recap what we discovered here . I am sure that when you assembled your engine that you measured (bore guage) the case bore insuring the bore was within specs for the OD of the mains. After doing that you did the same on the crank to ID of the main bearings and compared to OD of crank . 6 Shuffle pins are not needed and the through bolts are up to the task of keeping the case halves secure. So what caused the damage to the bearing saddle and the case half damage ? Is this case scrap because the of the damage to the case half, not the bore ? Again I am trying to learn so I will not make any mistakes . Mike McCarthy

I am sorry I wasn't clear enough, the surface with the burred metal is not part of what is cut on a alignbore, if there is damage there is case scrap ? Mike McCarthy

Ahhh, good stuff! I have used Raceware for 20 years on both studs and through bolts on T2/4 and happy like hell. Now on the T1 engine I have steel side plates and 12 mm 12,9 through bolts....... :-) It is true. Prior it was ofcourse shaved on both halves and align bored wiith full torque and plates.
