1960 Cal Look VW Beetle

I have reluctantly decided to sell my LHD old school Cal Look 1960 Beetle.

Body
Bare metal respray in original L440 Flint Grey ('60 only colour)
Original 1960 only wings (these have a slightly different profile to oval wings, no drain tube etc.)
Original four tab bonnet and badge
Heavyweight running boards.
Stainless steel side and running board trim
Rechromed original bumpers , overriders and restored brackets
Best quality window rubbers and trim
Rechromed all original quarter lights, 1960 only door handles, turn signal housings, bonnet and locking deck lid handles and original Bosch headlamp surrounds.
All glass original except replacement windscreen.
Original snowflake rear lights
Original fuel tank, vented with NOS 80mm VW cap
Spare MWS Gas Burner with 145/15 Michelin XZX.
Removable decklid hinge pins.
Brand new Framptons plates.

The paintwork is not perfect. There is some micro blistering to the bonnet and the odd paint chip etc. It could probably do with being redone at some point, but it is perfectly presentable and shines nicely, but not show quality as that was never the intention with this car.

Interior
Gene Berg locking shifter with Hurst line loc switch attached (switch not connected)
Newton Commercial charcoal carpet
TMI mohair grey headliner
Seats retrimmed with TMI water blue covers. (Original colour)
Restored seat frames.
Simpson dark blue lap harnesses.
Original water blue door cards (unbelievable condition)
All original handles and winders rechromed.
Restored clear needle speedometer.
Restored steering wheel with rechromed 1960 only horn ring and turn signal stalk.
Autometer pro lite for line loc, colour coded.
Autometer 2 5/8 sport comp oil and water pressure gauges in autometer housing.
Restored Blaupunkt radio (not connected -just for looks)
Original VW rubber mat.
Monster tach bracket. (Tach not included in sale)
Battery cut off switch under rear seat.
Stainless sill covers.

Chassis
JGE Gas Burners with original three prong Porsche centre caps
145/15 NOS Michelin XZX front tyres.
205/70/15 Goodyear Eagle radial rear tyres.
2" narrowed CB Performance front beam.
2" narrowed Bugpack anti roll bar.
KYB GR2 shocks front and rear.
Sway A Way camber compensator.
Bugpack urethane suspension bushings

Trans
Bears Motorsport pro street trans
4.125 R&P, Super diff, HD side cover, 1302 main shaft, tig welded syncro cones.
with HD axles
Gene Berg trans mid mount, rubber mounted.
Gene Berg traction bar
Bugpack urethane shift linkage.
Rhino trans mounts
Bugpack HD rear trans mount

Brakes
Neal disc brakes all round in 5x130 Porsche pattern with Wilwood calipers. (Probably the only four wheel set in the UK. These can be adapted to 5x 205 with adaptors from Neal in the US).
Neal handbrake calipers.
Earls brake hoses
Dual circuit master cylinder
Wilwood brake proportioning valve
Hurst line loc
Wilwood residual pressure valves.

Ignition
MSD 6AL ignition control box under rear seat.
MSD Blaster SS coil mounted behind rear seat in luggage area.
MSD billet distributor
MSD leads
New battery.

Engine
1600 twin port, stock internals, stock heads.
Twin 40 DelL'Orto DRLA carbs with CB filters, jetted for a 1600 on CB manifolds.
Scat doghouse 30hp style fanshroud in satin black
Brand new alternator conversion
Billet bottom pulley
Scat top pulley
CB Performance carb linkage
Newly restored tinware, satin black
Mild head exhaust porting
New clutch.
Bugpack breather box.
Electric fuel pump with Holley regulator & Mr. Gasket fuel pressure gauge.

I put the 1600 longblock in without taking it apart to check the internals, having been told that it had been recently rebuilt. I've found though that it has very low oil pressure indicated when warm. This may be a duff oil pressure sender or it might mean something more sinister and that the engine needs to be gone through. An easy fix for someone though!
I have a spare block and internals as well as some Weber 36IDF's with manifolds and linkage that need work that I'll thrown in if I get the asking price.

Exhaust
1 5/8 A1 Renn Kafer stainless muffler with A1 header.

This has been a labour of love over the past five years. I got it as a Swedish import from Owen Warlow as it was completely rust free. It needed no welding apart from a two tiny holes at the corners of the front and rear screens. These have been sorted. It was not a body off resto as the floorpans and channels are perfect.
My original plan was to build a big engine with all the toys and have fun, hence all of the top quality stuff. However, I don't have the time and what with having a 15 month old son, probably won't have the money anytime soon to do this.
I put the 1600 in so I could get it registered and use it when the sun shone, however due to the low oil pressure, it's been tucked away under a cover in the garage since October. It has done less than 100 miles since I finished it and it has never seen rain. I've put a lot of time, energy and money into this car and its got to the point where I have lost the enthusiasm to sort the engine.
I have a folder full of receipts and all instruction manuals etc for the accessories.
I've never seen another car in the UK in this colour. All the hard work has been done and all it needs is a big motor! The modifications could be reversed and your could have a nice stocker as the body and interior are original spec as per the birth certificate.
MOT'd and taxed until August.

£8000 ono.

No time wasters, test pilots, photo hunters etc. I'd like this to go to someone who appreciates the work put in and will look after it. I think it's a fair price considering the thousands spent on the parts and the fact it's an early, rust free small window Beetle, taking into account the engine problem. I have tried to be as accurate and as honest as possible in describing the car, but it is 53 years old and I would advise viewing it at first. It isn't an ideal first Beetle and as said, would suit an enthusiast.
I work shifts so please don't be offended if I don't answer. Leave a message and i'll get back to you as soon as I can. No texts!
