Looking to put a Talbot mirror on my '64.  What's the one all the DKP 1 guys had on their cars?  And, is that model available today?

New geniune Talbot mirrors, the smaller diameter one, are beyond pricey. Just check e-bay, and buckle up! Some times, you can score a used one, that will need new glass and the mounting ring... There are a zillion copies of the Talbot, so make sure they have the embossed logo on the top...

You'll want the 3.5" version. 4" look awkward. Non green dot.

The 3.5" Talbot Sport Mirror (no green logo), is the one most of us used. The U-bolt mount is probably the one you want. I bought a new mirror glass and ring from those guys a few years back. Be careful when mounting, drilling holes in your door, as you need to be sitting normal in the driver seat and have someone else hold it in place. The mirror head is adjustable, so make sure you can see out of it before drilling holes.

With the double arm the mirror is a bit higher so you can actually see something with the 306 from the driving position.

Yes they are hard to find.
As i said before i dont know the ones on the DKP cars, but these are the ones talbot made for the beetle.

I remember the Talbot "Jr".  There may have been two sizes but it doesn't ring a bell.  I'll take a look in one of my AH Catalogues and see if there is a listing. 

Times change as I remember these mirrors being under $20 but that was a good amount of money back then.
My understudy, Ed Craig, may have some input on this one.

Speaking of AH, today I've had a few e-mails from Ron Rosevear, surviving brother and one of the Auto Haus founders.  He is now in his middle 70's, living in Utah and enjoying life.

The "big" model is 4" in diameter and looks out of proportion on a beetle, IMO.

Sorry everyone, I've reviewed two of my ancient Auto Haus catalogues with no success in finding these mirrors.  It might have been a local source we got them from and never did a catalogue page.

As stated before maybe Ed Craig can add more to this.........

Thanks for looking, John.  I looked up Talbot Jr and that seems like the right one....3.5" mirror, no green dot logo on top, a real basic type mirror...

Yep. Had a small black one on my car in the late seventies. I remember doing all of that. After a year of it, hated how unfunctional it was. Tossed it in the trash for a more useful unit.
