Well after a great summer where I did more miles and shows than ever before the car was running great. However if noticed that the rear suspension was very wallowy in the turns and when parked up it had a tendency to settle low. So as part of the list of winter jobs I decided uprated torsion bars were on the cards. Jo and Richie at RJ Volksperformance provided them and after being woken by my son at 6:30 on a Saturday morning, I decided to get fired into it. There's a few pics below, other jobs on the winter list include plumbing in the external cooler, in preparation for a trip to Le Bug show next year, have a happy Christmas Cal Look guys

Hi Mikko i believe standard 67 bars are 21mm, i think....think these are 28mm. Richie on here is the man to ask as he imported them for me.

Hi Andrew, the shocks have been great, just sent the dimensions off and got them with in 2 weeks i think it was. Initially set them in the middle of damping range, then had a little adjustment after that. The Bump and Rebound versions would be too much for what i needed, but perfect i guess for more performance orientated applications. The other bonus for me is that they do have a full 3 warranty, beyond that they can be sent back for rebuilds if needed. Hope that helps

Eventually rolled it out of garage and had a little drive round the estate. Think I've ended up with a smidge more rake
and the rear feels a lot stiffer. See what it's like in the summer and do some shock adjusting

A minor update, during the build I forgot, or more than likely ignored the good advice for DTH (yes I’m an idiot)
to put the mounting points in for a mid-mount. So rather than cause damage by rectifying this with fire, when I
saw that RJvolksperformanxe had some Fast Fad mid-mound in stock that brace against the frame using urethane
bushes I decided this was for me.
So jack up replace the studs with some longer ones and all is good.

Just a little update, with summer approaching and a trip the Le Bug show planned i thought i'd eventually plumb in an external oil cooler.
Initially i bought a CSP thermostat, lovely cnc'd piece of kit, but i struggled to find somewhere to mount it, so i did some more research
and came across Improved racing. They produce a filter head with built in thermostat, so after gulping at the price, hiding the subsequent
invoice i bought one.
A quick mod to my existing mount, some paint and running some lines it was done. It seems to be working fine, will need to wire in my temp
gauge to double check.
Anyway here are some pics

It's spring time!!! Which means a rush to get all those jobs I said I'd do over the winter completed.
First was fitting a couple more gauges. Since I now like going to European shows I thought adding a couple of extra gauges to keep my eye on things would be useful. So instead of having the dash butchered I decided to put them in the glove box.
Which resulted in some chopping shaping and then this

That looks awesome! If you ever decide that you want to change your dash up a bit more, FastFab makes a 3 hole gauge panel that fits in a stock radio hole, so the gauges are technically in front of the dash. It's not the cheapest thing in the world, but I really like the way it looks, and it's a very well made piece. The black insert panel can also be removed and painted, if you want it to blend in a little more.

Plus it gave me an excuse to hide in the garage for a couple of weekends

Nothing wrong with an excuse to tinker around a bit! The main reason I did this one is that I didn't have any radio for my car, only a stock block-off plate. The Blaupunkt radio is definitely worth showing off! The rest of your car looks awesome, too!

With EBI looming and wanting to make a few changes i decided that small stuff would be the best idea....So it was time for a CSP VW rear brake kit and new wheels.

The other project has been looking for new wheels, after much chin scratching i decided on a some Sprintstars, ended finding a set in Belgium which i had imported, then refurbed by Dave Ward, and now they're fitted.

Time to blow the dust off this thread. After a year on Sprints it's back to the Enkeis, opinions are varied on which looks best.. I prefer the Enkeis, so the Sprints have headed to the loft.
Another year and another round of upgrades, the gearbox despite only being rebuilt 5000 miles ago was goosed. On taking it apart fourth gear had been fitted with a hammer, and was shimmed incorrectly. The selector fork had, had the tips remetalled with a blob of weld on each.. Ruining the hardening and they were wearing badly. Oh and reverse was goosed.
So while that was being done, new Gene Berg Grooved venturis and a saco pulley kit were fitted. The result is startling to be fair, it's a lot smoother and much inclined to rev to its redline. Should have followed Richies advice and upped the vent size after I'd run it in

After many years avoiding talk of a magazine feature, I gave in this year. It have to say that I was utterly stoked to be featured in the Volksworld Cal Look Edition and to end up as one of centre fold pull outs. It also debuted with the third set of wheels i've had on it. A set of flat four Brms....i grudgingly admit that it looks it's best on these.
This year I have EBI on the cards and hopefully a trip to Santa Pod with the goal of getting into the 13s. Stay groovy folks
