The reason I ask is I have nearly finished my bodywork and am about to weld up the towel rail holes so its not too much to weld the trim holes.

Ah shit, now I have to pull my trim off and fill the holes, bodywork and paint.....
but your right, back in the 70's, true Cal-look had no trim, BUT some did also. To me, you can still have a trimmed Cal-Looker by just doing the rest of the car as a true Looker, stock height out back and lowered front, (the stance). I guess it's how you do the car. My advise, do what you want to do, it's your car, I did.
Enjoy your car.

As Richie said, true 70's cal look don't tend to, but more modern versions do. Ted's car is not what I'd call a 70's style cal looker, but it's certainly cal look in my opinion!
It all depends on the era you're going for. My car has colour coded headlamp rims and blacked out handles, which are much later in style, late 70's/ early 80's.
Personally tho, if I was building a car from scratch, and it wasn't anything rare or special like an original paint survivor car, I'd weld up the trim holes. You can always drill them again if you want to!

So where does a car like Bill Schwimmers fit into this all?
It from back in the day, and I dont think many would argue it not a imprtant part of the cal look thing, but it runs trim and bumpers?

Dude
Bills is not from back in the day, when that is mentioned I think 70's, hence no trim. When DKP3 started up I think trim became acceptable for cal-look.
