 The 172 BRM's are 7" X 17", but my project isn't a Beetle, so no clearance issues.  Grin

I'm not building a Bug so hopefully nobody will be upset with the 17" BRM's... Undecided

 15" BRM's Wheels are only available in 5.5" widest, which is too narrow for my purpose.... Wink

FF BRM's are available in 6.5" wide.
As a rule of thumb don't go any narrower than a 205 with a 7" rim. Profile depends on body type and how much it is lowered, but I get the impression you want these facts to remain a secret, which makes helping difficult. You'll probably end up with 205/40's (rubber bands), 205/45's (not much better) if you're lucky.

 I was thinking about 215/45 R17 which gives me 24"-25" overall height, which is what I need.

  I didn't mean to make my project sound secretive  Huh. It's at the floor pan stage presently shortened by 10.5"....

Because the wheel will be wider than the tire.


If it's open wheeled, you're almost limitless. Whatever looks best to your eye and doesn't foul the bodywork on full lock.

There shouldn't be any issue with steering fouling with the bodywork I have planned.

At this point, I'm planning 7X17 front and rear. But have also thought about having the wheels narrowed at the front if need be.

And...? Nothing wrong with that, except that you need to watch out for curbs during parallel parking.
Additionally, it depends on the tire aspect ratio and probably particular tire model, but you will most probably, or even certainly not have that effect if you use something like 195.

You do realize that there are even styles, where the narrower the tire compared to the rim, the better? Going back to practical aspects though (this is 'form over function' forum, isn't it? Wink )  , I really don't understand your where your "rule" comes from. It eliminates some good combos and says nothing against putting too wide tires, which negatively affects handling. That's why I asked - I don't understand your advise and thus I think it is not a good one. Wink

Last I checked, a rule of thumb wasn't exactly a law. Use it if you wish.
