Don't know if it is considered proper to post this here but thought I'd share something with you all.  Tomorrow, July 31, 2013 marks my 50 year anniversary of being involved with Volkswagens.  It was July 31, 1963 that I took delivery of my new Ruby Red Sunroof car at the iconic Econo Motors.

I've written about it before but it just seems like yesterday that I hit the road back to Orange County, top open and radio playing "One Fine Day" by the Chiffons which I thought was rather appropriate as it really was One Fine Day.  Speaking of driving back, a good portion of the 91 Freeway didn't exist so it was kind of a country drive.  The number one song on that Wednesday was "So Much In Love" by the Tymes which is one of Christie's all time favorites.

Over the past half century there have been ups and downs but mostly ups.  I've met some great folks along the way and formed life long friendships because of that little Red car but most important is was because of that car that I met my future wife of 42 years next month.  The car has been out of my life for about 39 years but I still think of it often and appreciate the two sedans we own today.  Every time I get in one of those cars and fire it up a smile appears on my face as I know I'm going to have a good time.

I hope the next 50 years are as rewarding as the first 50 and so I'll close by saying HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to ME.....   Grin

As usual, great insight into your VW history, John.  Whether stock or modified, pretty much all old VW's have the ability to put a smile on one's face!   Grin

So you bought the car when you were just seven years old then, John. Cool!  Smiley
