Hi

I'm trying to find a replacement front gearbox (transmission) mount for my 1960 beetle but it seems they are virtually impossible to get hold of here in the UK. I believe it was a one year only mount and no-one has it in stock.  All that is available it the one up to 1959 and then jumps to 1961 (it has no bung).  The next available one has the bung but its for 1961 to 1965.

Does anyone know: where I could find one of the 1960 ones, or is there an alternatiive that can be used/fabbed?  The currently repro one which is the 1961 version with the bung have has moved the gearbox towards the rear by 3/4 mm and seemed to twist the box slightly.

I've tried Karman Konnection, VW Heritage, Cool Air and Ebay, with know joy.

Help will be gratefully accepted Smiley

Cheers

Stuart

Where are you based please.

I have some friends going to the States in November. They could probably pick one up for you and bring it back in the luggage?

     Let me know.

How about adding a mid mount? That would eliminate the need for a front mount, wouldn't it?

Thanks everyone, the whole thing has taken a bit of turn as I've managed to see what the one year only 1960 mount looks like and it transpires my car doesn't have the correct frame set up:

(please excuse the dust)

I double checked with a friend and it seems I need the 61-65 mount.  Which I think was the one I used.  This means I now need to get hold of a NOS or OEM version rather than the poor repro one which is causing the problems.  It's pushing on the mid mounts too so need to resolve this.

So again, thanks everyone.  Interesting the link is to Dream Machine in France and they've come back to let me know they only have NOS left for 110 Euro in case anyone else needs one.  He's the email address: greg vwdiscount <vwdiscount@gmail.com>

Cheers

If your car is a '60, someone must have cut out the original mount and welded in that later bracket. If so, it's possible that it is welded too high on the torsion housing. An nos mount won't cure that!

Thanks Danny and 56BLITZ - I've gotten hold of an OEM mount from VWHeritage and it is definitely slimmer with solves the problem.  The difference in width between the OEM one and the repro is about 4/5 mm.
