I'll soon get the  Berg bus 5-speed transaxle.  I'd like to get little bit info about installation and more info about transaxle etc.     There was actually a one or two great topics on a cal-look.com  about bus 5-speeds, i'v should taken word copy of them.

Has anybody else installed here the bus 5-speed?  Installation stories?  I once found few installation pics by google but now they're gone, somebody did have a nice billet flange type mount at bellhousing.

My car is 72', so it should be easier to install than to older chassis/body.

Ok, thank you very much.  You can also send them my email: alex.storskrubb@gmail.com

Mike at Rancho told that bus trans can be centered with some work, as you know, with stock berg mounts  it is 8-10mm of the center, atleast what i am told.

Ok, i have to get forward as possible - i'v been thinking and having conversations with Mike Herbert and Al Craig, there should not major problems  Smiley

I got also few pics from Mike, his Ghia with solid mounts:

Also if the berg front mount is not HD enough, i'll make something like this with 911 urethane mounts:

I did a lot off work on the torsion tube to get as close to original as possible, and The gearbox is now 5mm longer then original, but being a bus box also means it's About 10 mm to the right.

The top picture is my box build by rancho and modified by Steve , with a quaiffe and  a full alu support , he shortend the belhousing and made an alu  mount , mine is also solid mount...picture' s in my topic start on page 2

Okay, i intend to get the transaxle centered, and use rubbers/urethane mounts, even it means some engineering.       Yours is a very nice car, what hp levels with such big transaxle are you aiming?  Wink   Mine is a bit different, a true germanlooker  Grin

http://www.germanlook.net/forums/showthread.php?t=11248

I have rather longer ratios, but still shorter 3-4 gears than on stock 3.875 trans, i went with these ratios ( 3000rpm ), theoritically 250km/h is achieved at 6570rpm.

1. 3.44= 25.5 km/h

2. 1.93 = 45.5 km/h

3. 1.3 = 67.7 km/h

4. 1.00 = 88 km/h

5. 0.77 = 114.2 km/h

Stock with 3.875 r+p is this if somebody wonders:

1. 3.78= 24.8 km/h

2. 2.06 = 45.5 km/h

3. 1.26 = 74.4 km/h

4. 0.89 = 105.3 km/h

The engine is 220 hp at the moment , next winter nitrous Will be added. Then around 300 hp. I think, but first get used to the car..

And your project is a Nice read lost off good stuff and engineering, like the nicky's...maybe in the future. Wink

Hi Alex

I think you got already the pictures that you asked.

I installed the tranny with the berg solid mounts, so the engine is in offset position. As noted by drgouk, the length is the problem, not the offset.
