That car was Dominick Luppino's not Chris Bubetz's.

I think they all had the same engine size 78x94 - CSP , Luppino and Perkins , Bubetz

Ah my mistake. Was thinking back to an ocean street pro turbo vhs a friend had. The car I was thinking of was Chris bubetz blue and white beetle. Wondering what motor setup he ran, didn't sound like most turbo motors you hear today..

I'm pretty sure I read that the Dragon Slayer ran an Fk89 cam with the turbo, which really shouldn't have worked, but quite clearly it did!

Hey,
Hopefully one of these videos works. I've been searching around for videos and info but still cant find much. The motor sounds very responsive and high revving, I'm guessing it was draw through although it doesn't really sound like any others I've heard. Would love to know a little more about it.

I'm 90 percent certain that Bubetz's car had an engine larger than 78x94, but by no means should I be quoted. The car was featured in a 1997 issue of Hot VWs, I think around July. Doug Harvey's fastback was featured on the August cover as I recall, that year. I'll try to see if I can dig it out when I get home, if somebody else doesn't beat me to it in the meantime.

Ah, okay, I only knew the specs from the last incarnation of the car... it's a crime that it simply sits and never goes down the track anymore. I saw the car run in Seattle in the summer of '92, I think it was.

Chris had a 78 X 4" it was a 24 something.

It is not the first time I see a turbo engine with a FK89 but what I also find interesting is the gear ratios (and the fact that it is was a T1 box) 3.88 RP with a 1.41 4th gear? Is it a typo? Should it be 1.14? 155mph with a 1.41 4th equals around 11500 - 12500 rpms.

I saw the Dragon against Boom Boom at Sacramento. I'm sure Dom ran a similar number above and Chris a 8.95 .It was the best Drag race I have ever seen. Awesome.
