Found it. Great to know that it wasn't just me that can only navigate around this site properly. Good news about the engine cases.

What you need to know is that the only mag engine cases currently available in the States, are already in the pipeline, as VW stop making them months ago. And, until Bob @ BBT announced this on their web page, there were NO more cases being built. So now, apparently, the aftermarket has made some sorta deal with the foundry in Brazil to continue making them without VW's involvement (no more VW logo). While BBT has the European market, we still do not know who will have the U.S. market. If this deal did not come to past, you would only have aluminum cases left to build your engine, including stock!

OK, maybe it's a trivial question but what's so special about those cases?
I mean - it's good that they will still be available as an option, but don't we have some better ones on the market nowadays?

mag cases run slightly cooler and are lighter than aluminum
hope the quality will be like a stock VW part

lets hope they are from the same company that made them before. So there will be less junk than the aluminiums . also the mag cases have to get checkt as before

Am I the only one who had issues with VW mag case quality? Mine was out of specs as far as main bearing seats are concerned. This is not good quality in my book.

Same as some aluminium cases have, this is why you have to check it and give them back
But i think there are more good mag cases out there. And more light weight

I have only seen the a mag case out of specs on the bearing saddles once, but several times on the ally cases. Hence why I hardly ever use the ally cases.
On the other hand I have noticed a lot of smaller casting errors in the later mag cases. Especially missing material at the boss for the fuel pump flange.

But its good to have an alternative.

Giving them back is in some cases cost prohibitive.
But thanks for the info - it seams like mag cases are a safer bet.

This makes me think... for the first time you could be able to get them pre-machining... a magnesium blank. Exciting news, and THANKS Bob!

they wont be the only people stocking them in europe, from my understanding they jumped the gun and got the first batch without checking the quality, the quality has now been checked and confirmed and my understanding is these will soon be widely available.

I guess Chris Cocks in Hesperia will distribute them for the US, He was the official import, straight from the factory.
Still could be wrong...

Depends on one's personal economy, I guess.  $895 for a bone stock mag case seems awful steep to me.
