'67 seats frame question?
«
on:

Are there any differences in the seat frames for convertible compared to a sedan? I have the HotVWs tech book. Anything else to watch out for?
Thanks again for your help.

There are two styles, late 66- early 67 with the back release on the bottom, and the late 67 with the release on the side of the backrest. Vert and sedan are the same.

There are differences for true convertible seats, but nothing frame-related. There are eyelets sewn into the base of the upper cushion to allow moisture to drain out. You can't see them, unless you move the top cushion full-forward, and look underneath. My '67 vert still had original seat covers, and Lenny Copp showed them to me... Another '67 trivia question.

Okay, here's today '67 Trivia.... Front Hella turn signal lenses... These were used from '63-'67. But, '67s should have the number "66" on them, instead of the normal "63". Now back to our movie...

One thing to keep in mind, is that "low-backrest" front seats continued into the '68 Beetles in many countries, and on into the mid-70's. models. So, check the classifieds for some of these export models and parts.

If VW continued to use a low back seat past 1967 in certain markets, I wonder if the design stayed the same as late '67?

IIRC, only the backrest stayed the same as the '67 style-i.e. low.
The seat bottoms were upgraded similarly in most/all markets. For example, the 73-up seat (bottom) mounts used the third "middle" track system, the same as in North America...but combined with the late-67 low backrest and high release lever.

I believe the tracks are wider starting in 71-ish, tri-pods began 73.
