I am debating on installing a magneto in my 66 Cal Look or leaving it with the 010 distributor. Let me know what you think. And which one is the best one to install .

  Thanks

This is the magneto I have on one of my display motor. The magneto clam is one of the first prototype I got from Bill Taylor many years ago when he was at Bug Pack and Bill gave it to me to try and see if I liked it .

Another question. I had my Joe Hunt magneto checked today and all is good. Where do I plug in for the VDO Tach to get the signal ? I did it on my 54 oval but cant remember how i did it.

   Thanks

Unless you have a tach made specifically for a magneto, I believe you have to buy a signal converter to hook a tach up to it. I briefly had a Don Zig magneto in my '67 and I bought a converter from Autometer.

I was thinking about this as well... it should work as the autometer tach is a tach, just like a VDO or any other... curious to see who have done it before. sure will look good with a mag.  Wink

Hi Frenchy. I have a VDO tach like yours but 8000 rpm and on the back it is switchable between 2,4,6 and 8 cylinders. I found that using it with my magneto it read at half the rpm that it should so I switched it to the 2 cylinder setting and it reads correct. It’s a little jumpy but the right rpm

A few pictures of my magneto after I had a friend check it for me. I also polished it by hand and installed a new tag and a new cap. Next will be the plug wires and to hook up the converter near the tach.

Here are 2 pictures showing where I had my magneto before. Kept the engine and sold the race car.

Are you keeping the red anodized clamp? I am trying to decide if it matches the look and feel of the car. I do see other red AN fittings that it may match up with.... Huh Undecided

Was your local guy able to verify what the advance curve looks like?

I have the anodized clamp now in blue and the guy that did my magneto is his specialty and it is set at 10 degrees and 32 degrees full advance

This seems like overkill to me but this is the best I could find. I think you would be fine with 16 gauge, 14 gauge if you want to be on the save side.
