I was just about to reply to your 70's colours thread referencing this era of cal-look.

....those great aqua shades, bright yellows, Porsche raspberry or magenta, etc
colour coded upright headlights, original anodised Fuchs, etc etc...
I'd love to see more cars like this now.....

green car owner, mark malenkraught, also had an older brother karl in the club with a white 67, w/ black trim. Sorry, I don't remember how to correctly spell last name. Mark is driving big rigs for a living, he stopped by my house a year ago. He lives in riverside area with then girlfriend, now wife. bill

Bill, my classmate David Lonergan bought that car from mark in 76 and I had the yellow 68 cal look bug with black 8 spokes. That car was really nicely done and the color was unique. The interior was done with plaid inserts and all the vdo's  across the dash with nice toggles and lights. Motor was stock but ran pretty decent for a stocker. Rod Wagner  Smiley

Hi Rod, thanks for the input. Never knew David Lonergan had bought Mark's car, David had a  brother in my class, danny. One of our other classmates bought Roger Grago's ghia..( VERY small school too, not a short bus school either). lol. Marks car was a classic cal look color with perfect matching interior. For those that don't know Rod had the yellow cover car on june 77 hot vw dkp club issue. (see nicolas's comment pic) Rod is no new comer to hot vw's . He also owned debbie beckers black small window. Also a rare forgotten car. Any pics Rod ? Expect nothing but the best from Rod's new ghia project. no pressure now... Everyone....Welcome Rod to the lounge !!    bill

Bill, your the guy that got me into Cal-Look world and then introduced me to Roger Grago and Keith Goss, Mike Martinez and the boys at Fat performance. I was a few years younger than all of you at the time and loved hanging out with all of you. Everybody treated me so nice and those were the best days of my life. Going to Nabisco and watching all the gear heads race and attending bug in 13 and taking a trophy home for first place in the semi custom class was pretty cool at 17. I was living the dream and it's still in my blood. I'm building a 62 Cal look Ghia to enjoy and relive the old times. I have some pics that I will dig out and post of a 67 convertible and a 63 Ghia that I did back in the 80s. Wish I would of kept all of these cars! Rod

Not sure if all are like this but I had some dealing with a former DKP member.
I saw some 356 B rear drums for sale on Samba and asked the seller if he had any fronts.
The seller went out of his way to source  parts for me so I ended up with front and rears, the seller was Harvey Rosenthal and I have never had a more pleasurable transaction and I have purchased a hell of a lot .
The more I read this forum the more it shows how the older enthusiasts still love their hobby and are standup guys.

I talked to Harvey about the lounge. He has a profile on here Smiley
Apparently, he doesn't have any pictures of his old 66 that was later painted white bought another owner and ended in a pole Sad
Harvey is a great guy and has nice parts and 356 tool box kits.

Harvey's car was bought by John Leslie (I went to H.S. with John, Doug and Clyde Berg- I was a couple years younger). He was a good friend of Bill Demoss. It did get wrecked and John put all the parts into a White 66' I believe. White with polished and cleared Americans, 48 IDA motor (1835 CC) and either Don Strong or Mohler trans. White car had no interior other than 2 fiberglass bucket seats. It was light and quick! The wrecked car (burgundy 66) ended up on the roof of El Modena H.S. along with a stolen port-o-potty. "Pit Stop" was painted on the outhouse. Another friend Jim Kitasaki, bought the car from John and that is were I got the wheels for my 60' convertible. Jim let me borrow them for a summer. I don't remember where the car ended up after that. That would have been about 1981 or 82.

Also the picture of the white car behind the ghia is probably John Leslie, John put 1 piece windows in the white car after he wrecked the original car.

John was a surfer, VW guy, not the head porter...You might be thinking of Ron Lesnik?  Yeah, burgundy car is gone for sure, white should still be around somewhere. Jim took off the Americans when he sold the car. It had Centerlines on it. He sold the Americans to Larry I believe at V and W tire in Orange Ca. (no longer in business). Bill S. remembers seeing them there as well in the back of the old tire shop. But the shop, Larry and the wheels are long gone. I think Demoss' KG got sold and shipped to Hawaii or Japan? I know when it arrived to the buyer the 48's were missing.
