Somebody of you guys here ever seen "king of the mountain" ?  It's a movie made in 1981 and it's a racemovie something like pre "the fast and the furious"  Smiley
the story:
There is this guy who races his car (a souped up porsche 356 spider) and they call him "the king of the mountain"  These guys races up on mulholland drive into the mountains.  And then there is a local porsche shop with an old drunken piece of shit mecanic working there (dennis hopper) who used to be "king of the mountain" back in the days but he's working secretly on a comeback.  Grin  haha, he's wrenching on a primered corvette split window.   Mmmzz, there are some side stories in the movie but you have to check out that yourself.
This movie is a must see:  Nice cars, some nice 80-ies clothing, acting style, good "race" story etc...
I saw it a couple years ago on a saturday noon because it is B film, but it rocks!!
I found it on vhs and watches it now and then, it really got me going everytime I watch it...

Hope I will find more enthousiasts!  Cheesy

Interesting you would bring this up.  Over the past year, there has been a long fascinating thread on the Pelican Parts Porsche boards about the people who inspired that movie...one of which recently got his chopped top early 911 running again all beacuse of this on-line thread.

WOW! I remember seeing that movie when I was working for Auto Haus. Because of that flick, I velcro'd a watch (w/stopwatch feature) to my rear view mirror on my orange '66 and would time myself driving to the shop in the morning to open it for business. Thankfully, never got a speeding ticket for that.

I'd love to see the movie again... haven't seen it since it was new.

I got it on VHS but I'm scared to destroy it because my taperecorder isn't working 100% properly, so I searched for a DVD and I found a guy who sell's a digital remastered version on dvd.  But I guess this is a NTSC version and not the PAL that we need in europe.

I guess every cal look fan would enjoy this movie: racing, vintage cars, nice scenery, nice story, etc...

Can't be too bad if Dennis Hopper is in it.

It's not a bad movie at all. There's a fairly pointless ten minute long musical part in the middle that I usually fast forward through, but the rest of it is full of very cool late '70's styled cars. I would love to know what sort of drivetrain that the prosche had.

Harry,

Ok, thanks.  I didn't know that.  So I guess I will give it a try and order me a dvd copy.  Wink
