well at last i am sharing some pictures of my car with all of you.
i have been working for quite some years on my 66 fastback and it is beginning to look like a car again.
it was a 66 in seasand, but i have opted for a brown metallic paint, something along the lines of the brown car of mister Thurber. i also was looking for a talbot mirror, but i couldn't find a decent one at the time and i bought a set of hella mirrors insted. they are more modern, but still quite nice in my opinion
the car has a set of 8 spokes as it allready came with discs and 4 lug pattern. i am still working on some bits like the bumpers, it will have full european bumpers (with overriders and the bumperbars). but i have them chromed at the moment. the engine is my trusty 1641 i had built for this car, but ended up in the squareback. it has been sitting in the garage for two years and finally has ended in my fastback as it was meant to be.
i hope to have sorted out all little bits and bops by DDD5 and i hope to be able to drive it there. maybe even make a pass if i have the courage to run it. i have never raced any car so i am excited to do that one day. but first i need it to pass the inspection and have it registered
here are some pics so you can have a look at what i have been upto.

thanks for all the nice replies i am still not shure to put on the bottom trim or not??? a beetle has runningboards and that ties the whole together, but if you look at a type3 it has 3 panels and at the bottom it is not as nice. but i haven't made my mind up yet. i am working on the interiour today and there is still a little work to do. and the fun part was the eletricity, all wires are orange except the ones that come from the steering and iginition. i kept those original as they are soldered. that was great fun to do. love the 80's though. i will post some more pictures of the interieur next week when i got it done. it's not plaid, but it is callook with a twist

i always think a type 3 without sill trim looks a bit 'unfinished' but as the car is dechromed its works well. if your not happy without the trim, what about paint them satin black or satin silver?

Very nice I`m a big t3 fan & they just don`t get the attention they deserve. The colour really works & for what its worth I think the sill trim would finish it off really well. Feel free to post more pictures too! Cheers, Kev

whoa!!!! a brown pigalle interior?!?
thanks again just to get things right this is indeed a teak (original) but i didn't know how 'special' they were untill last year when the car was allready painted and the callook was allready in full effect. so the seats were done some 4 or 5 years ago but never installed and the dash was in good condition. i started all the colourchoices from the dash (something in my mysterious brain must have known it was special, or i like brown a lot... ) and i have a friend to thank that the car is not in its original seasand colour, he has a lightgreen square and when i bought my car in 2000 it was parked next to it. and his colour looked so much better. mine was looking like a orange (orange looker !!!) so the paint had to be redone. so i opted there and then it would be a different colour. as far as teaks and pigalles go, teaks are the ones with a brown dash and pigalles are the ones with a red dash. and kev, thanks! how is you fasty coming along? i really like the lucas lights on your car and that is one thing that will be changed for sure on mine when funds allow... and i have thought about the trim and yes i plan on putting it on but i can't glue it due to the overlap of the fenders and the torsionbars at the back. so i am looking for the large clips to hold the large (pre 67) 32mm trim at the bottom. i have the trim but not the clips.

Never seen a blue one either. Teak and Pigalle are very rare. (Especially in the states where fewer T3s were sold.) I really like T3s and don't think they get enough respect. And finding parts for them is a royal PITA!

yes it is. it takes 3 times the effort, 3 times the money and 3 times the patience to build a type3 some parts are hard to find and not much stuff is to be found on swapmeets. and if you need a specific part it is probally in some collectors hands and he is asking top dollars or euros for it. but what the heck just as an example; the clips for the trim. just order it online for a beetle and it is new, the ones i am looking for... still not found

Hey Dirk, it's not Fabs car, it's Nicolas car! And Nicolas: I am a big Type 3 fan but never liked the fastbacks as much as a notch or square but yours rocks! Color is beautiful, one piece windows, blacked out trim around the pop outs and the golden 8 spokes - just cool! Regarding the sill trim: I would definitely put it on but not to sure if chromed or black painted. Hmmm, I guess black would look realy good. Will we see the car at the weekend? Come over to our Club booth - with or without the car - for a beer and a chat! Cheers, Georg
