Has anyone ported their MS230 heads?

I'm running these heads as "received", except for fly-cut to ~50 cc.  Would like to get a few more ponies out of them, for drag racing with my 2332 cc Beetle combo.

Hi Neil

Johannes did some work to mine as they were for turbo use, I am sure I have seen some getting work at Heads up a couple of years ago, even though they are good out the box there is room for improvement as shown by JPM offering the 2 newer versions

Hi Niel a 230 CFM port will support over 250 HP. 

( Make your car lighter  Wink  That thing would be a rocket at 1750 Lbs Car and driver.

Not sure that I have the full 230 cfm with my cam lift, but I get what you're saying!  I'll have to check the "weight saving thread" more closely, as my last trip to the scales showed 930 kg (2,045 lb).

Peter Bang, Jaegermeister bug, had his 4" MS230 heads ported at Heads Up Performance years ago.
Roger did some work to them but said they where pretty fine compared to other out of the box heads.
As far as I .remember Roger did most work in the exhaust port and camber.


 The engine (oxyboxer) is now in the Ultra Rat.

What kind of lift are you running?
I flowed my MS230s and made past 230 at 600" with no work. They make the number and a bit more!

I double that

my t1 2387cc made 253HP with no porting, the only "porting" was to blend the seats with the runners and match port the intakes, the black anodizing was still in the runners, not removed, it did  those with an fk89/87 if I recall correctly, not even raptor, no need in my opinion to work on them unless you need only to drag race, not street drive with the car

Thank you, Tom & Dimitrios.  Good to know that the MS230 flows well "out of the box". My preference is to leave the heads untouched and look elsewhere for improvement. It would also make it easier to sell them, if I decide to get serious about racing and move up to the MS250.

Current lift with my Raptor cam is 15.2 mm (0.599") and I'm using CB manifolds (CE style).

I think that the Bugpack SF-intakes have a smoother curve in it. And a bit shorter than CB's.
