Jamar rear disc help needed

Hi guys,
Just fitted my Jamar rear discs to the Notchback project.
I can't for the life of me work out the caliper brackets or how the calipers fit. I have a suspicion the calipers are not the correct ones for the kit I have, but I am tired and have ear ache so maybe I am jus being silly?

Caliper body seems to thick to fit!! Will try and take a couple of pics later

Anyone got a link to fitting instructions?

Which kit do you have? If it is like mine- which started out as the 4x130 PCD then I'll take some pictures when I get home tomorrow

Are these the calipers and brackets I sold you? If so, the bracket replaces the stock backing plate; it gets sandwiched between the bearing carrier and retainer. The caliper then mounts to the inside of the bracket. You can adjust the offset of the caliper by changing the number of washers between the bracket and caliper.

The rest of the "clearance" will depend on the offset of the rotor/hats you acquired (assuming "too thick to fit" implies the caliper is hitting the wheel-mounting surface?).

Yes, they are the calipers and brackets I got from you
The caliper is hitting the rear of the wheel mounting face, almost like the caliper is too wide.

I have the brackets mounted as you describe, although I wasn't sure which way round they go. In the end I put them with the 'Jamar' logo faxing towards the gearbox, not towards the brake disc.

Will try and get some pics this weekend to show what I mean/doin wrong!!

it might be the calipers are twin pots and wont fit between disc and hub? if so you need the single piston wilwood calipers i think strange do them as well this is the same with neal wide 5 disc kits they use single pot calipers to reduce the offset i think? if the kit is made up out of different kits it might be the issue a smaller pcd kit can use a better caliper as it doesent get foulded  by the large 5 hub

That is correct; the recess machined into the bracket (where the logo is) faces the bearing carrier/transaxle.

Are you using a Jamar rear hub?

Yes, using Jamar hubs.
Think its the price I pay for buying bits here and there!!

With the caliper free of the bracket, does it fit within the wheel-mounting surface when centered over the disc (this would be a caliper-width/hub mismatch if it did not fit)? If the caliper will physically fit over the disc and within the wheel mounting surface, how far off are the calipers from fitting the bracket? Could this be a hub-spacer issue and not a bracket issue?

the calipers are not cheap to buy i had to import them from the states to complete my neal front setup and never even ended up fitting it

What Jamar hubs are you using? The calipers you have are their current 2-piston design (DBBCAL)...I'd be surprised if their 4 or 6-piston calipers are more narrow than those 2-piston calipers, and further surprised that their hubs wouldn't work with all of the calipers they manufacture.

was comparing a set of wilwood wide 5 discs with a neal set and the wilwood ones have about 50 mm between disc and insode of hub,and neal ones are about 25mm
if i remember correctly the neal and jamar are very simular

The calipers and brackets Lee has came from this Jamar brake kit:

The distance between the disc and wheel mounting surface is about 50mm in that kit, and those hubs will fit any of Jamar's 2, 4, or 6 piston calipers.

Lee, any pics or measurements of your Jamar hubs?

Hi guys,
Thought I would have another look at the calipers again with a clear mind. Here is a picture showing the issue I have. It shows the caliper fitted to the rotor/disc with the pads either side, but shows how the body of the caliper is just too wide to fit between the hub and the rotor

Those rotors look super skinny! How wide are they? A little less than 10mm is pretty much the standard street or race weight rotor thickness in the VW aftermarket. Those look very skinny, almost like they are the dune buggy super light design or something.

as i said they are for the single pot spot calipers

if you are using spindle mount fronts with no brakes  it might be worth keeping  the calipers and change hubs/rotors .if not then just change calipers

Like Dannyboy said, a single-piston caliper is probably all that will work with those hubs.

I took a photo but too big for here give me a mail and I will send them
