I have been dying to share this little email from GREG BUNCH after European Bug In 5 It was totally out of the blue and it took me a moment to realise who it actually was! He also sent me a LOAD of old skool/original never before seen picture.... I will post ONE but the rest are staying with me From: Gregg Bunch <gbunch@statek.com> To: "MONKI772003@YAHOO.CO.UK" <MONKI772003@YAHOO.CO.UK> Sent: Thursday, 11 July 2013, 23:45 Subject: IT'S GREGG BUNCH HERE!
I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH YOUR CAR AT THE EBI5. SO SORRY I COULD NOT CATCH UP TO YOU AND MEET YOU. YOUR CAR IS JUST LIKE OUR OLD SCHOOL PRE-CAL LOOK CARS WERE WHEN I JOINED DKP IN 1966. I’VE BEEN WANTING TO DO THE ANCHOR HEADER SIGN ON MY FENDERS BUT JUST HAVEN’T HAD THE NERVE. I’LL INCLUDE A PICTURE OF MY CAR I HAVE NOW AND MAYBE TOMORROW A COPY OF MY ORIGINAL CAR IN 1966 THAT LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE YOURS NOW. I LOVE THE SINGLE SIDE OUT GLASS PACK MUFFLER. I’M PROUD TO SEE THE OLD STLYLE COMING BACK THERE IS A GUY IN DKG IN BELGIUM THAT HAS A RED CAR WITH RED TINTED WINDOWS (PLEXIGLASS), IT’S AWESOME. I HAD THE BLUE TINT WINDOWS BACK IN 66 BUT IT WAS A PIECE OF BLUE PLEXIGLASS SINCE THERE HADN’T INVENTED WINDOW TINT THEN. ANYWAY FINALLY GOT THIS OFF TO YOU AS WE JUST RETURNED TO THE STATES ON MONDAY. SEE YA GREGG

Cool..... I like the symmetry of the Anchor Headers logo being on both rear wings....
Maybe all the photos I've seen only show the left?? But I always assumed it was only painted on one side....

Funny you say that..... Anders/RocketRacing from the Screwdrivers was saying EXACTLY the same thing when I sent him the pictures..... I actually prefer it on ONE side only

The "painting of a header brand" on ones rear fenders of a VW started long before these photos. Rich Kugel , younger brother of famed Bonneville racer Jerry Kugel was the first to do this. He had Jardene Headers http://www.jardineheaders.com/ which was then located within 1000 feet of where I'm typing this now. Here is a link to tell some of that story http://cal-look.no/lounge/index.php/topic,17176.0.html
I believe I'm the second one to do this with my Fourtuned Headers (first version of fresh air headers ever built by Bob Sanchez owner of Fourtuned. My car was lettered at Russ Ward Body & Paint on Chestnut St. in Anaheim. This was about 100 feet west of where the DKP Club House would later be located. I remember when I came in and told them what I wanted they looked at me like I was a nut.. My parents were not very happy when they saw it but I remember the first drive down the street. It felt like I'd doubled the HP.
Pat Stutsman, co owner of Anchor I met long before he moved to the (Anaheim Blvd.) Los Angeles St. location. He had done work for me at his previous location and once he moved all of the guys started using him for custom work. I never thought the Anchor Headers worked as well as other brands available at the time but Pat was sure a great guy. Years later he did exhaust work on many of my Chryslers until he sold and retired.
So there you have some more useless information............

So there you have some more useless information............ Thats exactly what we need John I remember you talking about the logo's before, I just kinda mixed & matched from a couple of different pictures and let my friend use his "Flair" I might get him to do the other side at a later date I also made my own "Fresh-air" header system..... And just added a nice White Glass-Pak Muffler
