Hey Fabian!
The Editor of VW Trends (Ryan Price) wrote a piece about the subject back in June 2001. A pretty decent issue, with a cool cover (some old vintage/cal look/gasser pictures), an interview with Joe Vittone, and an article about EMPI with a bunch of cool pics from the '60s.

Anyway, here is what Ryan wrote at the time:
- 1976: 1st issue of VW Trends (Editor was Bob Clark). Big 31-page Autohaus insert
- Three more (semiannual) issues followed until the magazine died in 1977
- October 1980: The magazine reappears as a bimonthly. It is labeled Volume 1, Number 1.
- December 1980: Volume 1, Number 2
- January 1981: Volume 2, Number 1
- It then became a monthly publication, until August 1981, when that issue appeared as "Winter 1981" (!)
- March 1984: VW Trends returns... again! Monthly publication.
- March 2005: The End

Hope this helps!
