After 6 years of not login into the lounge, I'm back. 7 months ago my 68 was stolen. It was my first vw, and it sucks it's gone. I had a 55 I aquired some years ago, and it's now finally time to bring it out and build it.
Ive been keeping record posting on the samba to keep track of what I've done and the order I've done it, for future reference. I come back to the lounge to.... show the cal look community the newest addition to the family. There are too many pictures to re-upload for me, so I'll just post a link to the samba build page.

Thank you hope it's okay I just link the original build thread from the samba. Would just take too long to do it all over again on here.

I'm not a big fan of turbo cars. Much prefer n/a, nitrous, or a blower

Thanks man. Really appreciate it I think there is nothing cooler then a real buggy bumper cal look car, unless it's a buggy bumper car with chapparals.

It's an early 55. Semaphores. No need for lights up front. I was tempted to weld em up but I kinda like them. I love seen a picture of a really decent looking cal look with only the passenger welded up. Left the functional grill there. Kinda neat.

We will see how the 8 inch beam works out. I talked to somsomeone who built a 8" beam and said he had no issues. I personally built a 5" beam for my old 68 (offset sucks on 4lug centerlines) and had zero problems. It was one of the best riding vws I've drove.

Did some more work last night, repaired the typical Crack on the hood and made it fit the car alot better then it did before.

Nice job  Wink I like this welding technique too. Weld some dots, hammer and dolly them to prevent shrinking, grind them almost flush, repeat ... finish with a flap wheel or a roloc. I still need to practice, but it greatly improve my sheet metal welding!
