Ok, not exactly a Cal Look question but I know that you'll all forgive me.
The clutch release bearing self destructed on my '58 bug a few months ago and whilst I pulled the engine a number of weeks ago I have only just had time to look for any damage.
The 'fork' looks a little bent and the new release bearing sits very loosely when I put it in place. In addition the clips are very loose and I can easily twist one of them off. I wonder whether the fork is bent or worn where the release bearing sits.
It is the original split case transmission and replacing the fork means splitting this. Given I hope to significantly 'upgrade' the engine later this year I'm not keen to do this.
I'm thinking of ordering some new clips, put it all together and just use.
Has anyone come across anything similar and what did you do?
Thanks
Richard
