Does anyone know of a source for headers for a 36hp  bug?  K1 listed some but they are all gone.

I don't think they do.  Would be worth checking the Vintage Speed Forum on theSamba to double check this.

There was a guy on there with a Header/extractor on a 36hp (txoval) who I think was going to remove it and use an alternative exhaust?  May be worth checking with him to see if he is willing to sell?

I was searching for one last year and put a wanted to buy ad on the samba and low and behold after a month or so a guy contacted me that had a brand new in the box thunderbird system from the eariy eighties. I was able to buy it for around 100, complete header, muffler, and bag full of bolts, gaskets, etc in the original box still! The quality is very good, flanges are thick, very well made. I have had good luck placing these kind of ads so far for my 56 project.....

a quiet pack stills looks better than tweeter pipes, even if it is hanging on a 36er....Even with all the new exhausts out these days if it comes out of two pipes that resemble the stock system I just can't do it......
