I personally haven't, but I know there are a few 200+ 48 Dell motors out there.

Hi, my old 2276 motor with wedge ports, fk89, 10.5 CR AND 48 drla's without any " special mods ", ie out of the box with a re-jet and 40+ mm venturi, made 202 bhp at the flywheel.  I'm sure there's a thread lurking around on here where people have discussed power achieved using dells on motors and pretty sure there were some 230 hp motors also but think these had the special mods treatment to the carbs.  But they don't flow as well as IDA's for WOT due to design. Better suited for street use as better transition  from idle to mains. Or so they say...... Cheesy  Hope this helps some.

Shane that's that's what i wanted to hear. Overall horsepower is not the ultimate goal for me but being able to drive the thing on the loads of torque and power it developes and still be able to keep a decent gas mileage. Efficiency is the key for me.

Im currently running 48mm Dellorto tri jets on my 2276. I have the 3rd jet blocked due to it running too rich on the top end.  Jeff denham ported 42x37mm valves 10.2:1 compression fk46 cam. I think the heads are a little small and plan to upgrade in the near future. Current engine has around 7k miles of abuse. The engine made 180hp and 160 lbs of torque on DRD engine dyno. Drove it to Las Vegas and back from southern california ( around 800 miles round trip)  for the bug-in in 2013. Went 14.0 at 97mph 3 times in my full weight super beetle with freeway gearing and street tires. I love these carbs. I have never had trouble tuning, and they run very smooth. They will be on my motor when I upgrade the heads to DRD L8's.

Sorry not 48's but 45 DRLA:s on 2274cc engine: 189hp (6000rpm) / 252nm (4750rpm) (186lbs) dynoed. 044 hand-ported heads 42x37, webcam 86c, CR 11:1, msd, 37mm venturies, phoenix header with stinger. As for efficiency - 1 hour flat out on tight race track = 27-30 litres of 98E gasoline Roll Eyes

2276 with steve time stage 2 heads 42x37 valves, an FK8 cam, 9 CR and nothing especially trick really. no idea on HP as it never went on a dyno, but it does run crisp and clean with a set of 8 tri-jets. like stated above the transition from idle to main is really good and without any hesitation or so.
i like them and i am sure i didn't use their full potential.

94x86, CE-Heads, Scat C55, 10,1comp + 48 dells (39mm vents)
= 164 hp (5500rpm) on the wheels, good owerall torgue and 9 liters / 100km on the trip
to SCC.

Great carbs in my opinion, easy to tune too.

Torben i bought the carbs from the guy who was selling it. He said he couldn't keep it in sync, well i know i won't have any problems with it as i am going to use a cable linkage with my engine. Spoke to jake raby about dells and he love them, so that is another confirmation that the carbs are good for street.

OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH!!!! Grin

I remeber that one.

I just have to remind especially the Scandinavian guys of a long time ACVW guy in the heavy end. Old movie, taken with a phone back in ´07 or so. But check out especially the last black and red bug, he also challenges a Quaife with 48´s......... IDF though. Roll Eyes Though the other 3 ai´nt exactly tame either, he takes the win.

Brings a smile on my face every time. Thanks Flenne.

Yes sir i remember this vid. 40 x 35.5 heads. The airspeed in them heads must be high. The torque on that engine looks outstanding. I can remember on another forum asking about using 40 x 35.5 valve in the head of a hipo vw engine.

Well the dells are a keeper. Now i need to do a rebuild on them.

Good luck with the rebuild, they are pretty straight forward.

Does anyone have any tips on how to remove the white colored corrosion that sometimes builds up on carburetor bodies?
