Lube and sealant?

Hello,

Getting to that point in my build where i'm thinking about what to use for assembly lube and case sealant, for the sealant i was thinking Curil T or K2 is it? or Gasgacinch or yamabond or the likes....

and for assembly lube... some say gear oil, or Lucas ect ect....

Ideally easily available in the UK.

also the engine will probably a while before its first fired up due to mocking up the fuel injection, and 911 cooling setup ect so thats something to bear in mind...

Any input would be great,

Andy, I use STP oil treatment for engine lube.  It sticks like shit to a blanket so is good if your not gonna fire the motor for a while.

I use Permatex 3J on cases and barrels for my bike stuff. Never leaks.
I like Yamabond for the "Classic" engines (that means 1960s badly pitted Honda/Suzuki twins made of pot metal!  ), fills gaps nicely.

The spray WD40 madly everywhere, and seal it up.

Yeah got that currently, used it for mock up lube, like you say, shit to a blanket!! I spilt a load on the floor and I can't be it off!! (Bare concrete)

See I want to seal it up with just the assembly lube on the parts, then once the case sealant has cured, (short block) I plan to spray oil inside everywhere to stop rust forming...

I have some red grease from my buddy Steve that was intended to be used on assembly lines where there was hot water and it is not washed off easily. If you get it on your fingers you need gas to take it off and it will get stringy like glue. Great for problem wheel bearings where water might get in. I used it on a front wheel bearing and the wheel was harder to turn by hand after! Here's a pic of where he used it for assembly lube, just a tiny bit works wonders, lol...

I use Loctite 574 for sealant
Good 15W40 oil for bearings
Moly-disulfide/STP mix on camshaft/lifters and in oil pump

Doesn't Loctite make a spray on sealant??

Permatex® Aviation Form-A-Gasket® No. 3 Sealant Liquid  on the case halves and paper gaskets, Permatex® Ultra Grey® Rigid High-Torque RTV Silicone Gasket Maker  at the base of the cylinders , pushrod seals and the cam plug . Has anyone ever had a problem using these ? This is what I have used for many years without any negitives to report other than being tough to get off on the next teardown .  Mike McCarthy

Some times, there is simply too much choice lol

Curil T is available easily, will look I got that permatex as I've heard it used a lot too...
