With Russ Welch's passing, I dug out some old photos I have of his club, The Valley Volks Klub. They had a racing contingent that had a grudge match/test and tune at the original Irwindale RACEWAY on Wednesday nights, and they were a social club as well, having driven their cars to the beach, events, camping, etc. Here are just a few of the many great shots. Makes me wish I was there. I hope you enjoy them as well. kudos on that first photo.... how could you NOT have fun, pouring Coors on your buddy's head?

That's "Big" Al Martinez and his Aztec kit car. He had a body and paint shop and later promoted some VW shows.
Once I get a little time, I'll post some more photos. They really are a time capsule. Like Jim, I like the first photo a lot, but the Tshirt on the girl is pretty cool as well. Anyway, keen eye Sir Licks a Lot!

Wow! Those are great pictures and really shows what it's all about....Good time and friends hanging out playing with their cars. Motivates me to get off my a$$ and get my car out of the garage once again. LOVE that Aztec kit car too (And I am NOT a kit car guy). Thanks for sharing! |
