The project has come to a bit of a halt at the minute. Hope to still get it ready for next years volksworld show but that might be a push.

I want some of it to be a surprise. These days everyone knows what the finished projects look like before the debut. I'm really happy with the floorpan, it's gone together hassle free.

Looks like all the pictures on this thread will disappear soon. Photobucket want a stupid amount of money to allow me to host so I have no choice unless there is another option.

I use imgur , its still free for time being at least. Ball ache copying all the pics across but would be a shame to lose such a great thread.

Hmmmm, got a Flickr account but I’m not having much luck with it. Copying all the pics from this thread ain’t going to happen, not enough time, I’ve got a car to build

Not single and currently rebuilding a house too with a move out date of my home of 18 December. All this ain’t helping the rebuild progress at the minute and I’ve booked my place at the volksworld show next year too. Pressure on big time! Body going on the chassis next week

I do like the pressure, gets things done. The trouble with saying things like "I don`t do writing on my fixings" don`t help
In the meantime , here is a chromed ring on my boot.

It's cool to see a car that has a few details, BUT, this car have them ALL
I would LOVE to see it in flesh someday!

Cheers, that was my plan to detail every part of the car whether it be just the nuts and bolts to the casting marks and basically refinishing every single component. Sticking to that ethos has been a challenge to say the least in many ways.

Lyndon, in the nicest possible way, you are a pervert. Chromed rings on balljoint boots is just wrong! Deviant even!
By the way, I can't wait to see the car in the flesh!

Yep, you're a wrongun! Seriously, you're detailing parts I'd never even think of doing. I remember the car first time round when you'd removed the panel under the vents at the bottom of the window and thinking THAT was excessive! I love what you're doing because I know I never could. Hats off to you!

The only reason I removed the air vent panel under the back window was to get access to remove the rust at the seam at the bottom. It was only then that I thought about making it a bolt in panel so took advantage.

Thinking about it I might as well carry on updating this thread instead. I`ve added some pictures to my instagram account so I thought I should update here too. Here is a couple of pics when I got the pan back from paint.

Some pictures of the gearbox. Its taken two attempts to get the look I wanted. I first blasted it and used a file etc to smooth off the casing as it was quite rough, lots of flash from the casting. Many hours of smoothing and filling and I ended up with a painted black case.
Blasted

Slowly getting there. Primed again to see what it looks like. Still more to go.

Then I polished the ribs as I`ve always liked this look

Then I thought about how to stop the shine on the polished ribs from tarnishing over time. I made a big mistake in giving the whole gearbox a coat of metal sealer. It looked terrible and quickly realised that I had wasted all my time so far.
Only one thing for it. Blast it again and start all over.
Blasted again and a coat of primer added

This is the reason why some restos take longer than others, I`ve made many mistakes like these and this is the only way to learn what`s right and wrong. Because of the level of detail I want to achieve , the shitty gearbox finish would have played on my mind and I would have always thought that I could have done better, so I pushed myself to be happy with every part of the car.
