Wide drum 5 205 drum conversion

I've been looking at the wide five rear brake drums to take late 40mm rear brake shoes sold by various companies. They look like machined down split screen van drums.
Anyone had any experience with these? Do they need machine down further for short axles, any wheel fitting problems
