Help with door window scrapers
«
on:
August 01, 2015, 09:07:48 am »
Hi Everyone
I'm attempting to fit the one piece windows to my 67 , and determined to do it differently ( better ? ) than everyone else ....
I'm thinking about using the original ali trim , painted black , with a full length scraper fitted . I think it will look quite neat , and will cover most of the felt channel with is visible around the rest of the window
I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get some of the little rivets that hold the stock window scrapers onto the aluminium trim ?
And maybe the tool to press them in ?
Thanks , Rob

I did something like this. It does hide the felt channel nicely. [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ] [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ] [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ]

If I remember correctly they were from heritage although I'm not sure if they still do them. I think I got 4 outers and modified them to fit inside as well. Also extended the aluminium trim to go all the way round the window

They were one piece windows seals ?
I just bought some bugpack ones , but they're stiff , with no way of curving the ends up .
Maybe they were type 3 ones ? they're supposed to be able to curve up .
Cheers Rob

You curve the ends up by cutting slits every 10-15mm where you want the bend, not sure how to explain it other than under the edge of the seal you see when fitted

Yes they are one piece and they were listed as type one. Already moulded with curved ends. No need to cut and no wire inserts to bend

Wow! Nice work there Jay c, how did you go about extending the aluminium trim?
I'm looking for NICE window scrapers for my car, my local supplier is dry.
Rob, if you are selling the Bugpack one I'll even take those, they have felt against the glass, right?

Jon , I'll let you know what I decide .
Leec , I've tried that before , it works ok , but now I've seen how well Jay has done it I'm determined to get in as good .
Cheers , Rob

Any news on this Rob? My car is going to be back for reassembly soon (currently in the booth in guide coat!
) and I'm re-fitting the one piece windows. I've got the better, twin lift, long lifter mechanism to go in so that it's not going to be a total wobble fest, loathed to fit the cheapo "snap in" scrapers. I hate them with a passion.
The ones with moulded ends look bob on the money.
I've got a few good mouldings places on my favs list, my brother just re-did all the seals on the '47 morris to fit all his lexan / scrapers and has done a pretty good job. I'm amazed at the number of profiles available. Might be able to find one to do the job.
Out of curiousity, how are the stock scrapers fitted to the door? Same method as the "snap in" ones? With those hateful little pyramid clips?
Cheers,
Ryan

Hi Ryan
The ones with the moulded ends are not available anymore , shame as they really looked good ..
The stock ones are held in place by those clips , but also the ali trim that goes all the way round .
I ended up using some scrapers from woolies car trim in lincolnshire , I used the smaller profile , bonded to the ali trim ( painted black ) on the outside , which then snapped in with clips . Then I used the larger profile scraper for the inside , bonded directly to the door .
I'll get some pics , Rob

Looks like Status VW used to have a "double bent" window scraper back in 2008. But I can't seem to find it on their webpage anymore. It was supposedly of their own design. Any idea where I could find something like this.
