swedish 64, mild cal look overhaul

here's my 64, had it imported over by owen warlow, as couldn't find a decent bug for sale in the uk
did a body off resto, required minimal welding, well compaired to a uk car! (channel bottom plates, end plates, 1 rear bumper mount and a pair of body mounts)
original pans and channels
left it ratty on top, as spent a fortune building my previous dream bug, only for the embarrassingly poor, but expencive paintjob to turn to shit in a very short space... so tried something different this time around, and it's much more usuable!!!
got it on the road a few days before the volksworld show this year, been driving it daily (mostly!) since
put it on the road as a mild resto cal
fitted a straight copper hurst shifter
raised the rear end up, now on steels with 356 nipple caps
have been collecting parts to rebuild it into a mild cal look bug over winter, also a bit of repair work on the front end , as some twat in a parts delivery van reversed into me!
i am refitting the original stock width beam with adjusters, just had new king and link pins with dropped spindles done by cogbox
as driving with the narrowed beam is dreadful!
a gt ratio box with short axles from my friend enzo's old bug
picked up a 1641 with full flow, engle 110 cam, stainless 4-1 with a stainless turbo muffler, just need to find a pair of 36mm twin carbs
facet electric fuel pump
hipacs will be fitted into the engine bay aswell
i've had a pair of steels banded to 6.5" wide at the rear, to fill out the arches! and i may get the front pair done to 5.5" wide on the inside, so i can run decent width tyres.
the main am is to have an early bug, which drives nice, and to keep up with modern traffic! as driven it up and down the country this summer with a 1200 with no compression!

Looks good. I'd be interested to see it with the widened rims. Do you have any pictures yet? Thanks.

Tom, I saw this at VoWo in the car park and pointed it out to my Dad because it just had a certain look about it. Turns out he'd spotted it too and was about to point it out to me! The polished 5's really suited it, I think they'd look even better with the new stance.

Thanks! I really like eagle 5's, but felt polished wheels looked a bit washed out on a white car! I'm still on the hunt for a set of sprints for it eventually though

I'm not usually a fan of fully polished wheels - a little too close to resto cal for me, but they really worked on yours. Might be the contrast with the original paint? The car just screamed late '80's California to me!

Thanks Neil!
Picked up a few bits this weekend, a cool superior 500 wheel, but need to find an original boss from somewhere? Although will probably just use a grant boss and hornpush.
Also got a pair of koni reds for the stock width beam, just need to find an uprated arb from somewhere?

Not a lot been going on, enthusiasm has dwindled even more
Stock width beam now refitted, and front inners blown in, where the wheels used to rub from the narrowed beam...
Just brakes to refit, then the front end should be rolling then....
....can remove the engine and box for the hipacs to be fitted, and 3 point kafer bar to be welded in ( ready for a big motor in the future?!)
Picked up a flat 4 boss for my wheel from a member on here, sent it off to be machined, to fit the wheel.
Also bought a pair of bargain snowflake taillights, no idea if they will end up on this eventually

Steering wheel is now on ,had the boss machined, then re polished
need to get pics!
Engine and box is out, short axle gt box should be in the next day or 2.
Cotsweld 3 point kafer bar too, along with hi-pacs
Then ready for the 1641 to go in!
Just bought a bas exhaust too
