What's the best to use? Quality standard, silicon or one of the Bakelite type?

I've always used and recommended the (red) Silicone one. Only using those on my "race" engines - and everything else I build. Turning 8'000+ rpms without any issues - never any leaks from the seal.
A dab of oil on it, and tap it in.
