Beadlocks, what's the idea?

Hi guys,
Seen a pair of wheels for sale that have an outer beadlock rim.
A quick google search shows they are used for off road racing/sand dunes, is there a benefit to runnin them with a drag slick?

I have no personal experience of beadlocks but from what I've seen, they are only used on real high HP cars to prevent the wheel 'slipping' inside the tyre.
I guess if your car was light and you had low pressure in the tyre, it could slip with less HP. The off-road/sand guys use low pressure and some can even pop the tyre off the rim if enough side force is put on it.
How much heavier are they than a race weight wheel ?
Do look cool though

Drag wheels usually have them on inner and outer, as Darren said they are to stop slick spinning in wheel, if tyre moves to much it can come of the rim and instantly go flat and potentially cause a crash,
they add about 10lbs weight to each wheel
cheers Richie

Wouldn't rim screws do the same job?

So maybe a slight overkill for the notchback then Richie?

how much gas you going to throw at it?
Yes and typically a decent beadlock wheel starts at about £1000 each!!!!!

Richie,
The notch may not need gas, turbo is current plan as I am fed up with N/a!
Basically, a pair of CMS bolt together wheels have come up for sale the right size and back space and have been modified by OMF to run beadlocks, I am tempted to buy them but wondered if I would run into any problems with them?
And Darren, yes they do look cool

Yes, but less hassle and chance of leaks, I´ve been told.
