may i ask how you have kept the body in its current state?
I have a simular state car but want to keep it patina for now but worry about it just getting worse?

If you keep it dry, by storing it indoors, it won't get much worse.

Spray a couple of coats of clear over it -- if you don't want it to get worse

why would you not be allowed to paint the helmet?

Because paint and plastic don`t mix so well. And instead of checking if the right paint is used it is easier to ban painted helmets.

#10.1 Helmet

- Helmet is needed in all classes.
- Helmet should be approved according to NSR § 304
- Junior helmets should not weigh more than 1100 g.
- It is not legal to put stickers on or paint the helmet.

These are the Norwegian rules which again are taken from NHRA.

psssst..... his helmet isnt plastic....

I would love to see where someone used some house paint or somthing to paint a helmet and it ruins it...

I have sold 1000's of helmets and never heard this rule....

Pretty much every PRO Driver in the NHRA's helmet is painted....
