Fabs, do you mean that he doesn't want to sell and does want to restore the car, or doesn't want to sell and doesn't want to restore it either? The suspense is killing me! Cheesy

Mind you, if I'm honest I always thought the Martinez chop was slightly too much - Tar Babe and the Goss car are perfect in my eyes.

"restore the car to his former glory".........?

Former glory of what? You guys make it sound as if the way the original owner customized it was the ONLY way it could be customized. If it was such a great car, why didn't the original owner keep it the way it was? Why didn't he keep it at all for that matter? You can't possibly think the next owner has the EXACT same taste, and won't change anything on the car, do you? To each their own. I see things I like about the car, and I see things I don't like about the car. Like Mom always said, if you don't having anything nice to say, why say anything at all.

First time I saw it at OCIR brand new in black with a long fix it ticket on the windshield with several violations.
No wipers, no bumpers, no turn signals and others?
It was built/owned by a relative of a long time VW event promoter and body shop owner in So Cal.

My one regret back in 1989, this car and my pink drag bug were on display at a small show in Costa Mesa.
The black chop was then owned by Dyno Don.
He offered to trade it for my drag bug, I should of took that trade.
Now in white that So Cal moment seems to have been obliterated.
White thunder? why not call it Loud Lightning? lol

Im sick to my stomach.....    When I sold the Award Winning, Magazine featured, Bug-In Chop, after owning it for a brief stint, I had to perform some miracles first, and color sanded/Buffed/fixed the suspension/repaired the miles of endless wiring/ and "Dyno"Tune the car. When The car left my property to embark upon its long journey to Japan, after no one stepped up to purchase it here, It was in Pristine Pure Black, "NON louvered" Cal Look Tradition, and would "Fire Breath 12's" on any given day..!   Sad to see its ruined condition, Period..!!      If in fact, its the same car...

Kinda like how we felt after we saw what became of El Diablo Gris. I'm sure you remember that Dyno.

here's how look the car now

That's how it looked when I saw it back in the late 70s? at OCIR parked in the pit area.
He had been pulled over that morning on the way to OCIR and on the windshield was a fix it ticket for over a dozen small issues.
Turn signals, bumpers and whatever else.
