Oil Filters/Coolers and full flow

On my roads doghouse filters leak every 10K or so, and are a PITA to change.
So, I have come up with "a cunning plan Baldrick".

Oh, and no, it's not new or original really.

Instead of mounting the cooler so vibrations get it, I thought I would tap the oil cooler holes for 3/8NPT and screw in these.......

The I could also use all the airflow available by blocking off the doghouse slot (a bit like the Mex bugs have done, but completely). Cool!

Except after looking at the case there, I rekn that a 3/8 tap would weaken it a lot on the outlet hole, it would end up pretty thin I think.
Has anyone had issues with cracking there after tapping the case for fitting?

So then I thought I'd express my inner 70's-ness, and use one of these........

Except I was worried about the possible flow restrictions, if any, that the bottom hole might present. I've used these a few times in the good old days and never even thought of it.
Then again, back then I rarely gave thought to anything!

Oh, the full flow part is where I carefully jam a bolt under the oil control valve to make all the oil go through the cooler all the time, then use a thermostat on the filter head, it's a dual-relief case.
