Hi guys, I am looking at getting an engine management system for a turbo drag beetle I am working on. We have just purchased the engine complete apart from the engine management system, any recommendations for an easy to set up system that has all of the inputs we will need and someone that can map it? Located in the Midlands uk Thanks

Unless doing it your self (mega squirt) I'd speak to your chosen tuner and see what he's used to as some don't work on certain ecu's .....

due to my latest experience i would use a Fueltech FT 500. Ver easy to fire up....but of course you need somebody to do the mapping right on the dyno.

Or you can throw your questions on this topic and I can answer you if they're tech questions Is there a base model available that would suit using just a coil pack (eg like EDIS4), a 36-1 wheel or single crank pick-up (like modern bikes use), and 4 throttle bodies off a sportsbike? Oh, and boost or bottle capable is a must. Would it be easier to send it direct to Australia from Brazil rather than via Europe first? You just never know how long it will take me to get sick of the 1584 I haven't even driven yet!

Hey I'll start the reply backwards There's a FT dealer in Australia, just not sure which company is taking care of that right now. You can try get in touch with Fueltech USA and they'll give you a name since FT USA is responsible by Australia distribution as well. As for the modules, the only modules with Boost and Nitrous control are FT400 and FT500, being FT500 the one that will give you more options to control both. If you want a better boost control than the FT500 native one, there's a Fueltech BoostController module that will help you on this. FT400 boost control is too simple, I'd use it for some street applications only. For the nitrous control, the FT500 native one is all you need. In the US we have ProNitrous guys (Jay Cox and other folks) running it and also Street Outlaws folks, like Daddy Dave in the Goliath.

Ah... So you can even go with a FT350 You can take a look at their manuals and check if FT350 would be enough for what you need http://www.fueltech.net/manuals

+1 for Omex
I managed to get a 710 model pretty cheap. It was an older model with a black casing. Spoke to Omex on the phone before committing and they said it was just packaged differently. They could run it through their diagnostic program to test its outputs and inputs and update the firmware to its latest version. I bought the ECU, sent it to them, got it tested with a report and returned within 10 days. Good service and helpful via email too.
My local mapper knows them too which was always a main concern. Having an ECU that nobody understands or can map would make things difficult !

i use megasquirt and like it, its more DIY, in that you can mod it to have more features then any other, but unless you pay someone to do it, you'll need a bit of know how on diagrams and a soldering iron, i stick to the basic stuff! but works well, can tune its self with the right software.
IF your getting a tuner to do the tuning, its defy asking what they will tune though...

Cheers for the replies guys, currently it has a 2387cc draw through turbo set up with Holley carb but have purchased an autocraft engine with fuel injection. We'll be racing this year, last year was not much success due to reliability issues hoping for better results. Located in Solihull, cheers for the tips omex sounds good

When in the UK you should perhaps also look into DTA. There is a few of us using DTA with success.

Anyone with a PC can map a ECU. It is rather simple. My base map was made with the car bolted to Dyna Packs but I have changed the map so much over the years that there is hardly any data left from the base map apart from the ignition table. Best rgs BB
