After selling my '64 Java-Green Cal-looker I wanted to start a complete build. A friend of mine had an 1967 original Dutch 'standard' beetle with ragtop for sale. Should be a great base for a Cal-looker! Today I picked it up:

First I need to go to the Dutch DOT to get all the correct papers. After that it is time to strip the car.

Keep you updated.

Thanks!

After stripping off to sandblasting and have the welding carried out by a pro.

Engine will be a 2176 or 2276 and will be used as a weekend warrior. Colours I can't decide yet. Java Green again? Black? White? Porsche olive green? Golden green? So much choice!

Picked up some NOS fenders today for the US spec look Smiley. Furthermore the Dutch DOT will check the beetle on 9 February to get papers. After this I can start stripping the car.

I'd look through the 1970's Porsche colour charts - there are some very cool colours there!

Cool car
Love the accessory bumper rubbers Cool

Standards ready made cal look.

Has someone put the exterior trims on. Or would that have been a factory dealer added ?

I think side trim was factory, but no bonnet trim.

Thanks for all the replies.

Titan red does seem nice but I'm not sure what interior color to go with red.

The side trim could be factory or dealer added. It does not have front trim or trim on the dashboard. It also has different seats than a deluxe 67.

Nice project!
I would really go with a shining/ bright coulour (no black/white) that stands out. Really love a clean/decromed looker with a coulour that isn`t that common...
You have some time/ work ahead to pick it, have fun ! Grin

Small update.

Yesterday I went to the Dutch inspection because the car had no papers. Everything was ok and they put a tag on the car. Now after restoration I will get the og. Dutch license plate.

Today I started with stripping the car.

My old Fastback was originally Granada Red, I can't find a good picture of it but it is also a nice shade Wink Used from 66-68 on type 3's only.

In the meantime a sourced the sheet metal for the rearcorners and front window section which came out of another beetle. The rockers also need some work. What are good replacements?

Furthermore I'm cleaning the body to get it ready for the welder and for sandblasting. The rear wheel arch came out great.

Hi Henry,

Sorry but I don't like patina at all LOL.  Grin

I think it's neglecting your vehicle when you can't wash and polish your car every week Cheesy Do you still build gearboxes btw?
