Quick question guys, New valves New Scat Retainers New Scat Keepers They look like scrap to me... Impossible to pull the keeper fully into the grooves to get the retainer sat where it should... I'm well aware that most parts need fettling in some form to get them to fit but with these I cannot see how they can be fixed... Is there another brand I should be going for or did I just get a bad batch? I'll speak to the supplier after the bank holiday (unless he recognises me on here ) Thoughts much appreciated Luke

They fit into the retainers fine without a valve but you can see the bottom grooves are misaligned when doing so... I did manage to get a couple of them seated correctly but then had to use a tiny screwdriver to prize them apart to get them off.

42x37 valves, 8mm stems. Kinda difficult to tell but you can just about make out the grooves not lining up... Scrap?

I pulled 8 out to do 1 head and didn't get a pair that sat well. Not that they needed gapping at all, they wouldn't sit well enough to get even close to closing up.
I pulled a couple more out of the bag to try and get a good pair to get an accurate installed height so I can get the spring shims ordered. I found enough for 2 valves...

or Monday morning before their 3rd coffee! Colletts would be the same as most other parts wouldn't they, all out of the same place just different packaging? Does anyone make their own really nice ones? SI Valves? Manley? (I'm just curious).

So what is the solution? Dig some stock VW ones out? Or did I literally just get a shitty batch?

For most items I trust used VW over new CRAP. Just saying...
OK. Now that the thought train has left the station.... Have you fitted old VW keepers to your new valves? Or new keepers to old valves? Possibly your issues are not isolated to one item...

Stock VW fit snug. If I were using those I would grind them on sides a little, you don't want them to touch cheers Richie

Yeah just tried them to rule out issues with the valves or retainers...
Are stock keepers fit for the job or do I need some aftermarket ones?
You're Richie from RJVolks aren't you?

Has anyone on here had a stock keeper that was clearanced properly ever fail ? I have been lucky I guess , I have never seen a failure that I can say were caused by the properly clearanced keeper failing even with my K800 springs and retainers. Mike McCarthy

How odd, just checked the valves out. They're branded 'SI' never heard of them... They're brand new from Roy at Mofoco... Are these a decent brand? Should their grooves follow the norm and fit these keepers?

can we see a pic of one keeper sitting in the valve grooves and a pair of keepers in the retainer with no valve?
My guess is that they may need a little more grinding or the valve grooves aren't deep enough
