Hi,

a good friend of mine wants to go this or that way.He has a mild 1586cc with decent headjob,webers,W110 and all that "normal" stuff...Now the pistons need tho be replaced so a good time to go for more cc.

I am a bit curious cause there is a thick and a thin version of the 1678cc Mahle Kit.
I know that the thin 1678cc Kit is not a very good choice but never heard some voices about the thick version,or I forgot it  Wink

Any good advices what way to go ?

You never heard someone saying something about 88 thick walls?

Felix, my old engine used to be a 1678 before I turned it into a 1776 - what I thought it has been before.  Sad But that was the only downside. I used that engine for I guess around 30000 Kilometer wihout any problems. Later on I gave the 88s to Sven in exchange for a swiss cheese fondue!  Cool

Thick walls yes, thin walls no!

Machine 88's are the Way to Go!!!  Thin Wall 88's run hot and the barrels Crack , CB Performance sells the thick wall 88's

If you wanna go with  8)the 88mm's choose the tick wall versions,they are way better then the slip in version like said above here.

But as JS said, if you're machining anyway, why not just go for a 1776 (or a 1914!)?

I even would go for 1776 but my friend wants to keep the "halves" together.
That`s even the reason why I never thought about a 1678 combination with only a few bucks more you have a 1776cc !
So I never minded about think thin and so on  Grin
