just before my mind gets clouded againwith all these beautifull cars here is my list. it doesn't include a lot of european cars as it is made up of 'magzine-cars' that have influeced me through the years and at which i look from time to time to have some inspiration. they are older cars, some not around anymore, but they have all stoud out the test of time and if someone had built them today these cars would leave a great impression on me as well. i have seen a couple of very nice european 67 as well, but i don't know who own them... these cars are not in any particular order.

1. john ercse
2. hector bonilla (but with the bumpers and bumperbars)
3. don bedford
4. berglar (latest incarnation)
5. greg brinton
6. john plow

I think my list of 67's would include

Hector Bonilla  (Love the color, wheels and everything else that makes this car what it is.  My former roommate's car looks like a possible clone)

Art Gutierrez  (I've just always had a thing for this car)

Jim Ratto  (When I got my VW back in high school, My buddies and I always wished our cars were as cool and fast as Jim's)   Grin

Art Gutierrez's and Xavier's are my favs, but I recall a red 67 with T-Bars from britain which came out around 99 in Super VW Mag which was awesome too, anyone remember it?


Jason McCreery's car, Jaguar Regency red, 1776cc, first original Empi 5's then later some repro BRMs. There were three very similar ones built - Jason's, my brother's and Ben Hayes from Total VW magazine's cars all had the dark red paint, upright front wings, lucas indicators, etc., they just differed in interior colour and wheel choice. My Brother had American Eagle wide five fuchs and Ben had Centreline replicas.

I love all of them, as each can be linked to its owner - it's not just a car, it's whoever's '67.
But then I don't just like '67s, I like other year models for their own reasons. Every year is special in its own way. The original Underdog in orange a brilliant looking '65.. Stephane's Oval, Bill's ragtop - it's not just '67s for me.
I can't say I don't like the '67 model year the most  though - and not just in terms of VWs, if you sit back and think about it, '67 was a good year for many manufacturers. A number of Amercian cars I like happen to be '67 models too, the Nova, Mustang, and Goat for example. There were some crazy designs which came out in '67 such as the Mazda Cosmo, The Ghia 450SS, the three seat Matra 530 . So I like 1967 in general as far as automotive design is concerned.
As for my favorite '67 Bugs - it's a very hard question to answer. Of course I like my own car, as it's done just how I wanted it. But the cars which I have always had a special place in my heart for are Gary Berg's car when it was under a blue cover at VW Classic back in 1990 - the Porsche Minerva blue paintwork blue my mind as the Californian sun shone on it. It brought the curves of the bodywork out so well.  The car was an inspiration to me, it really was.
My friend Hector Bonilla's '67 - well that car is just fabulous in so many ways.
Deano's old '67 was just so right it hurts, but the one car that I will always thought of as the coolest looking '67 of them all is Art Gutierrez's car - especially when its on Firestone slicks.  That car rocks!

I always loved Art G's car since the first time I saw it in KS's performance engine book.  The recapped slicks and stance awsome.
Donnie Bedfords 67 influenced me at an early age.  Scott Bakkens 67 (pictured below now with new owner and magnesium Americans) is a soft spot for me since I Scott let me make a pass in this car at the first Drag Day a few years ago.

Selfishly, I still love that black 67 even though somebody messed it up with a hairdryer!  Grin

Thanks.  Im suprised you even remember the Empis.  they were only on for about a year.  Its funny, I will never forget seing Mark Herbert carrying a pair of Americans through Pomona in June 1999.  At the time, I didnt even know Mark but I asked him about the wheels and he explained how rare they were.  The next weekend they were on the back of the SSB and I knew that I had to find a set.   Smiley

Another story about Mark carrying Americans. We were at the San Jose vintage meet in about '97 & there was a set of mag Porsche pattern 5 spokes. They were spray painted silver & looked crappy @ first glance. The guy wanted $200 bucks for them, so I pointed them out to Mark. "Nah I don't want them, I dont feel like carrying them" was his reply.So I beat the guy down to $150 & he ended up helping me carry them anyway.  Sorry about always baggin on you Dave,  your car is bitchen.  later Bill

Bill, you can bag on me all you want brother.  As I recall, offered me the keys to your car the first time we met.  It was that drive and Sarges car that made be take my car apart one winter and make it that much nicer to drive.


My favorite autograph in my copy of KS's Cal-Look book is "Dave, thanks for not crashing my car"  Grin

I like a lot of the cars already posted but my mate's Standard 67 with optional sunroof and real BRM's has to be one of the most exeptional 1967 models around.  I'm glad I found this car together with him from somebody who wanted to convert it to a speedster!!!!

Every time I see this car I want to go and install the Goldie clip I have been hording in my '67. I have all the hard to find bits too. Just the idea of cutting a huge hole in my roof scares the crap out of me.  Undecided

That car is too cool for school. Did it originally have the upright fenders? Im just wondering how sunroof standards were orignially equipped...
