Am looking after a 1302 for a friend, the car got rear ended a few months back, but is now repaired...

But ever since, the engine has been running extremely hot!!

In the shunt, the engine and box was pushed forward.

The only visible damage, was the lower pulley ever so slightly warped
Exhaust and front tin.

The engine itself runs and turns over fine (no tight spots)
Thermostat flaps are fine


Timing has been checked by 3 people! Valve gaps set correctly etc

Before the incident,the temperature was fine

Could it be internal??

Is the opening for the fan (front of shroud) shoved right up against firewall tarboard now? You mentioned the engine got pushed forward.... check this.

I would then suspect muffler is distorted inside, creating huge backpressure. Years ago we would make the stock engine run cooler by driving an awl into the "X" shaped restrictors in Leiststritz stock 113251053AK mufflers
If the muffler got hit, I would try another muffler and check to make sure nothing took a blow which kinked forward piping (heat exchangers) or the way the heat exchanger meets muffler.
I'd make sure the lower tins didn't get bashed hard enough to restrict hot air exiting from off engine too.

Stock muffler was damaged from the accident

So have fitted a empi Gt 2 tip dog turd muffler, which was on my 66

Every thing that should resolve the problem, isn't?!?

Next step is to change the oil cooler...?

It gets hot quite quickly ( 10 minute journey)

If it was sitting for a few months, then is it possible the oil cooler valve is stuck due to varnish from old oil?
