I'm about to refit the diff in my rancho pro comp box and noticed that they never lockwired the diff to the crown gear. It was like this from rancho so I'm assuming they used lock tight. None of the holes line up so shall I just leave it as is or is this a no no?

The early differentials used 6 bolts to secure the ring gear.  Those 6 bolts were always backed up with lockwire.  Then VW increased to 8 bolts starting in 67 with the 1500.  8 bolt diffs were never equipped with lockwire.  The exception to this is if you ordered ZF diff.  They always got lockwire, swing axle and IRS.

The bolts never come loose when properly torqued.  Just like your wheel's lug nuts.  How many guys use lockwire on their lug nuts?

the holes shouldn't line up anyway, you want it to positively lock.... hard to explain but google correct wire locking and you'll see what i mean, i've done so much wire locking in the last few years via work. not doing it on the car is a defiant relief!

Cheers guys, the bolts were torqued right so I just reinstalled the diff as it was. Tricky work as I didn't want to damage any paint etc.
