There was a pretty good discussion about the car where Dave chimed in and told the story last spring.  I thnk it was in the Type 3 thread.

I agree.  Back in the mid 80's, powder coating was a fairly new process and there weren't many options as far as color.  I was hurrying, trying to get the car done, and gray was the nearest color to what I wanted.  It never did look right.  I really wanted a unique wheel, and passed on Cosmics, Fuchs, and a few others.  Couldn't make phone dials or 928's fit or look right, so that's why it turned out that way.  I always wanted to redo the wheels and never did.  C'est la vie.

I would love to see the car nowadays, assuming it's still in one piece.  I asked a few questions of Nao Fujita when I was in Japan, but no leads. 
Sure had a lot of fun with that car.
There was another post talking about SCS Showdown in 1987.  I remember meeting Mike Gagen that day, as his Tickled Pink car was next to my Notch.  Lots of great people and cars. 

I could go on, but I'll spare you all the details.  It was a great learning experience.

I disagree with you guys. I like the 924 Turbo wheels, as I've said, they made such an impression on me. That was one of the strongest visual points about Dave's Notch.
Sure, other wheels, that are distinctive, may have sutied the car better? Porsche 928S "flat slotted" wheels for instance. Or maybe Mahle gas burner 914-6 wheels? But not Fuchs, or Empis....it would have been just another squeaky clean Notch in my memory.

you said it Jim! these wheels give it a different look, and in a good way different. the car must have looked amazing. it really looks perfect. it sure has a lot of very rare and nice parts.

I woulod like to see what the wheels would have looked like in a different colour. Maybe blacked out centres?

You are right, it is always hard to find wheels to fit as good as those.  It's always nice to see something different on a nice type 3.  .
