I remember a good while ago there was a feature in volksworld about a club that raced vw's on the street. I remember in particular a innocent looking grey beetle type 4 powered and on nos that did very well in the races it participated
What I remember best about this feature was the quality of the builds, many parts fabricated to fit on the cars, kind of the opposite of what I had seen on cal look cars so it was very intreaging
These were my formative years of getting into vw's
I would love to here from anyone else that remembers this feature or maybe more info on the cars
This must be at least 20 years ago so maybe a long shot!

I think the club was called Aircoolers Vasteras (well something like that), there was also a grey Oval Beetle in either the same or a later issue, but can't remember anymore details....

Hold on though, the feature might have been call "Land of the midnight sun".... Grin

Hope this helps,
Martin Smiley

Hopefully someone else will be along shortly to help with more info.... Cool

Turbo town, Vasteras, few of them are on lounge, when we go there we stay with Johan who built & races this notch, http://cal-look.no/lounge/index.php/topic,7684.0.html

The underground garages are really cool, in the garage Johan shares there are lots of other fast cars & projects like the 1641 9 second ghia, even a crazy hp supra and another garage just 2mins away with Patte and his monster fastback, by this garage is the "test track" street which is possibly the smoothest piece of road I have ever seen on a public road and covered in rubber Wink I guess knowing the people that surface the streets really helps get your local street nice  Grin Cool

I'm sure it was in the first issue of Volksworld I bought - metallic red late cab on the cover, red and green split panel van in a small pic on the cover too. Around May 1995.

It probably was around that time! When most of the exposure I really had to modifying a vw was pastel colours and lowering all round.
It seemed amazing that there was a whole sub culture that evolved around speed and that these vw's could actually be made to go fast.

The feature was called 'Land of the Midnight Fun' following my trip to Vasteras in 1995. It was a fun visit, that's for sure! Any car that stood around for more than five minutes got a turbo bolted to it... Great bunch of guys in the Air Coolers. Memorable trip...

And so many early cars too. Lots of turbo split bugs, all looking absolutely evil!

I'm out in the USA at present, but all my old mags are packed away prior to a house move - either to be stored or thrown away... Anyone want a ton of VolksWorlds and Ultras?

Me too! Keith I would love those mags if we can sort something out?
Whilst you're out there, can yuou recommend a cheap way of getting a disc brake kit back from socal? I am getting quotes of $579 for shipping alone!

Well I had to clear out a load of stuff from my moms loft the other day and what did I find, a stash of old volksworlds in a few bags, so I tool them home and the 2nd one I found was the feature I was on about?! May 1995 issue, I can scan it in if anyone want a read? If not upsetting Volksworld by doing that?
