has anyone seen this air cleaner before? what is it? It's not the usual Empi chrome filter that came with the "ram kits", and obviously it's not from any VW either

This was the GTV road tested by Car and Driver in '68

That was my first thought, but this one is noticeably smaller and has the oil breather nipple on the bottom. Also I don't think a stock air cleaner will fit a Zenith

Hard to see .., Looks like there is some sort of preheat setup involved , which a single zenith can greatly appreciate .

Yes, it looks to have dual snorkels with preheat on the right one just like a stock '68 air cleaner, I wonder if it's a one off hand made thing that never made it into production
