As per the title, Im aware of the obvious ones like the whine, no thrust etc, but what are the advantages from a perceivable point of view. i.e longevity, noise levels etc as Ive never known anyone use them?

Thanks in advance.

Straight is all I use. Less power loss through gear set than helical gears. I like the whinnnneeee Grin

I once tested one of our local cars we have here that I played with for years, six cylinder engine, but still I think applicable.
Bore 92mm, stroke 76.2mm, 41.1/36.0 valves, pushrods, etc.
Anyway, going from helical gears to straight cuts, and an elec fuel pump instead of mechanical, gained (drum roll please......) 1.1/2 tenths and 1mph on a mid-15sec car.
I even reversed it all to double-check. See? It really IS a power mod.
 Cheesy

But really I just like the whine too!

How much lower was the oil temp with the straight cut gears?

Dunno Bruce. this was on a water-cooled cast-iron engine (like a smaller version of your Chev 250).

I use them on ACVWs coz I like them, never bothered testing them.
