So,

as I was cleaning out the garage I started selling motor parts. as the pile goth smaller I noticed I have almost everything to build a 1915 engine.

here's what I got:

new case, cut for 94
scat cw crank
scat rods
Mahle cilinders and pistons
1.4 rockers
40 IDF's

now the question is:
what camshaft is best for a 1915cc street engine? Engine should go in a karmann, just want a real fun engine to drive, and to be fast enough to notice.
no need for stripspeeds, just a 'fast' street car
I have a FK65 for my 1641, but that one stops at 6000, I want it to rev a little further.
Also what heads are the best bang for buck? concidering it will get IDA's someday.
If I get somewhere around 120hp with the 40IDF's I will be more than happy.

what do you guys think? FK43-44-45? something else?

probably not a lot of advocates for the FK4 series cams, but i have a FK44 in my 78x90.5 and i love every bit of it. also it has relatively small heads with the panchitos (40X35) valves. so i would use it. works in a type3 so should be OK in a ghia as well.
power is in the heads  Wink and you didn't mention them  Grin

I didn't mention heads because I don't have any for the moment Cheesy not sure wich ones to get yet..

If I was choosing parts for a real old school screamer, I'd go for 40x35mm valves and an Engle 120 or 130. Seemed to be popular in the '70's Hot VWs magazines!

Ok, maybe a small update on the question.
in my quest for parts (and my enthusiasm Roll Eyes ) I bought a pair of old autocraft stage IV heads with stainless 44x37.5 valves...
After a few days the enthusiasm made place for a little realism and now I'm not sure if this setup will be streetable...
the heads are flycut a lot, head chambers are 45cc at max, but more in the 42cc range...

what I have for now:

new case, cut for 94
scat cw crank
scat rods
Mahle 94mm cilinders and A pistons
1.4 rockers
40 IDF's
1 1/2 and 1 5/8 exhaust.
MSD 6al with mallory unilite

what still lays on my parts list:

IDA's
Camshaft
(oteva) valve springs
(titanium) retainers
(tapered) pushrods

so my question is: will I be able to get a street motor with this heads in my ghia?

Just about, with 42cc and 1.2mm deck height that would be 10.5/1 compression s a little on high side, if you put a 6cc dish in pistons then that would make a more sensible 9.5/1 compression, with the right cam and with 44mm or bigger carbs it would make a decent combo Smiley  But the work needed to fix those heads if guides are moving or loose is probably not cost effective

Yeah, I'm having the heads checked by a machine shop this week to make sure they are still usable.
My first thought might  have been to harsh, 7 of the 8 guides are still perfectly good, valves align perfect and 3 chambers still hold liquid. The life of the heads depend  on that one guide...
Not sure why the guide isn't seated anymore, my hope is that the guide can be pressed back in without to much fuss. But I'm trying not to get my hopes up to high..

I had an FK-8 in my 1915cc with 48 IDA's. Heads were almost stock but 40x35.5. Fun engine! Was more in it with better heads.
