What's in those newer GT Mustangs, a V6? And what's a vortech model?

The new bodystyle GTs have a 300-hp V8.  Isn't Vortech a supercharger company???

I don't know. It said Vortech on the side. Couldn't hear its motor over my own.

Hey Jim, I just noticed there is a photo of your car in the Sept 2007 UltraVW coverage of the Classic.

Cool!  Wink

you can get the "new" Mustang with either V6 or V8, not that I can undstand why anyone would choose a V6 with a meesly 200hp for that car... the V8 carries 300hp stock. As already stated, Vortech is renowned for their superchargers.

They have some upgrade packages for the Mustang. Basic upgrade, supercharger(8-9lbs of boost) cranks up the hp to 425, add a chargecooler you could see 475, add some trick fuelrails, change pulleys on the charger and a claimed 575hp is achievable according to Vortech.

Please tell us more, I always like a "Jim Ratto Story"!  Smiley

cheers,

I was driving home from work and got into east end of Simi. Noticed a black, lowered Mustang coming up on my right side. As luck would have it we arrived as the two leading cars at the next traffic light. He was smart enough not to lay it on from a stop, as he would have broiled his tires into oblivion. Anyway, we both hit from a roll, and I pulled him up through top of 2nd...but since it was 5:30 in the middle of town, I backed WAY off. Thoughts of living behind bars flashed in my mind....guess I am getting old. Anyway, he blew by and did the usual, swerved into my lane...

 Grin...

A friend of mine has been a Mustang fanatic for years and this is what I know about Vortech:

Vortech Engineering has been building supercharger kits for Mustang ever since they open their doors back in 1991 (I believe).  They used to be in Oxnard, California.

I have been inside his car and it has a very unique sound.....  it just takes the basic system to boost total output engine up from the stock 315 to 420 horse power........It does not sound like a regular Mustang....It is a V8 GT with some extra juice  Grin

I know from personal experience that a STOCK 2007 Mustang GT will run at least a 13.8 @ 101 mph at the track.  SO if you tangled with one that is charged, nice job.   Smiley

Stickers are cool, because they are pretty easy to install.

Did it say "Red Rider" across the decklid? Remember the 1970 Boss 302 we raced on our poker run, up the single lane Strohbridge Ave on ramp in Castro Valley? Fucker had no idea what hit him. All he could do is give us a thumbs up.
