Well as some of you know or read in my "new engine" tread I have been around T4 engine for more than 20years but after 2 broken crank I think its time to look another way
So what is in your opinion the best N/A race engine ?
Is it time to step up to a pauter or will a wbx case with jpm heads do the job ??

Thanks John

What are you trying to do, have fun or set records?  Do you have any et requirements you need to meet for a particular class?  Budget?  Lots of ways to go about this, if enough is salvageable from your last build the most economical choice might even be too have a great crank made (Bryant) and put the type 4 back together.

You say you have been into type 4 engines for 20 years. How many cranks have you broken in that time. Not many. Its a rare event. I just think you were very unlucky that it happened. I would try a smaller stroke crank to gain crank strength, go turbo and keep it type 4.

The two broken were welded strokers?

I think the wbx case is good, but the TF1 is better.  Seems like to many compromises with the wbx for the sump, pickup, full flow etc.

Most pro stock guys are autocraft or TF1 based with autocraft heads?

Sorry for the delay moving house/workshop holiday  Wink

No need for record for me just having fun but I will not go any slower than now I will be happy with a 10sek car
No spec class
Budget hmm right now only looking for ideas
The first I broke was a 86mm scat billet the second was a 80mm dpr

Am I the only one to run 8600 rpm on a type 4 ?

We run like 10 years with the kemp type4 engine   I think 5 years with 8600 and the same crank   Engine is still alive in the yellow car now. If you want something new I would go with a type1 mag case , autocraft or tf1     For 10 sec passes a mag case is good enough. I have a complete engine ready to go for sale I did a 10,2 with it in my car   [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Why not use a waterboxer case converted to aircooled.
