a friend found this plate on a junkyard core gearbox many years ago and he has not been able to find another. it kinda "prevents" the spring from exerting force directly on the Mg case.

any idea if this is a stock part ? I would like to get a piece if anyone has any for sale.

I've seen a similar part before but without the flat part shown in your pics that goes against the spring stop.
It almost looks hand made and tacked on to the factory cupped ring that I've seen. Is there a weld there?
The part I'm familiar with VW calls a "buffer-stop holder" and can be seen in this link as #27 or #28 depending on the year of car.

I've got one on my SSC IRS '73 Superbug (model 1303) that's stock fitment.

If you're lucky someone may have a parts layout for a long-gone part number, but now you have a model range to look at for the bit at least.

The stamped bell washer is standard fitment on all gearboxes, however, someone has modified the one in your pics by adding an extra flap.  An unnecessary mod, IMO.  It solves a problem that doesn't exist.
